First impressions of the Switch 2 port of Hitman World of Assassination

This was one of the first Switch 2 games I was able to download and try on my own console! Although I tested both handheld and docked modes, my first impressions were primarily through handheld mode. I tested these locations: Paris (to see crowd density), Dubai (for the gorgeous outdoors infiltration scene), and Chongqing (for the lighting and rain effects).

Important note for people not familiar with this game:

This game is partially online-only meaning that although you can play offline, your progression from your online save file will not carry over while offline and vice versa. Please keep this in mind before purchasing this game!

Graphics:

  • The game visually looks good and seems to retain most graphical settings seen in other versions.
  • In handheld mode, the resolution appears to be 720p or thereabouts. It is definitely not 1080p.
  • In docked mode, the game appears to be 1080p.
  • This game does NOT appear to use DLSS unfortunately. I am fairly confident that it is using FSR 2/3 because of the artefacting and shimmering… I'm not quite sure what's happening here as the PC version supports DLSS and I hope this is added for a future update.
  • There is something off about the HDR implementation of this game. Images appear overly bright with lost detail when played with HDR in handheld mode on the built-in screen. You may wish to consider disabling HDR while playing this game.
  • There are no in-game graphics options that you can change.

Performance:

  • Loading times are good and comparable to the PS5 version of the game.
  • As with other versions, it's an uncapped 60fps that varies wildly from scene to scene depending on what you're looking at. In handheld mode, I felt that the FPS primarily hovered around 30-50fps. In docked mode, I felt that the FPS primarily hovered around 30fps or lower.
  • I do NOT recommend purchasing this game on Switch 2 if you intend to play primarily in docked mode! The average FPS while docked is too low for VRR to kick in and feels unpleasant. VRR isn't supported in docked mode anyway.
  • The performance in handheld mode is passable and will be my preferred way of playing as the built-in screen's VRR does a good job making the variable FPS feel smooth.

Other:

  • There are no special controls in this port such as motion controls or mouse support.
  • The game supports 5.1 surround sound.
