A friend and I were in a GameChat session and wanted to invite another friend to it, but neither of us could find the option to do so. I looked up the official FAQ and, sure enough, it confirms that you cannot add people to a GameChat session. You have to end it and start a new one.

That’s stupid. But easily fixed in an update hopefully.
That’s very weird design decision. Not surprised though.
The Vita had functional voice chat over a decade ago….
Guys it’s a new technology Nintendo is still finding their way around it—
Xbox and PlayStation have had this right for how long?
Ah Nintendo so charmingly backwards sometimes never change buddy
I can’t even sign up to GameChat with my phone number, always getting an error. Anyone else?
Leave it to Nintendo to complicate something that other companies have had figured out for close to 20 years.
🤣
I am a huge nintendo fan. But as someone pointed out: Dollar store Discord.
Nintendo is trying to reinvent the wheel. Expect it to have normal fuctionality in about.. -looks at the calendar- 20 years or so.
It’s amazing how they drop the ball on such normalized options.
Nintendo gonna Nintendo
Oof. Definitely need to fix that.
It’s weird because you can drop out and re-enter no problem.
It’s almost like Nintendo have never used any online service for any other system or game before.
It used to be just Japanese companies, but even more so at Nintendo it seems like they’re just so far behind on “basic features everyone on the internet understands”.
Nintendo keeps trying to be the smartest person in the room.
Of course not. The technology necessary to hop in and out of a party chat is at LEAST 20 years away! /s
/facepalm
Come on Nintendo
Huh? I wonder why
Xbox360 did this in 2005
It’s 2025, 17 years after the launch of Xbox Live Parties, and they managed to make it worse somehow.
Nintendo Online will always be shit lol
To be fair this is a good design decision with a bad implementation
Its to stop randoms and people from joining who people in the gamechat may not fully know and can veto
What they should do is allow in if all participants accept
Ran into this situation last night. It’d actually be a nice feature for keeping a room private, but hopefully they update this, and I’m sure they will.
You also have to switch to your preferred view (namely full screen view for your own game for most) and there’s no option to set a preferred default. Game chat will need quite a few QoL improvements
Nintendo try not to be inept at online services challenge (they still can’t fucking do it)
Hey, we can’t expect too much. They’re just a small indy company.
This is very very weird. I’m sure someone here will spin it to being some sort of positive thing as the usual reddit thing but I wonder if this will be changed
why
They need to patch that quick. That makes zero sense.
Nintendo still doesn’t get it 🤦
Nintendo and the internet go together like oil and water.
Lmao Nintendo is so ridiculous
I was invited to a GameChat session last night and was able to join it already in progress.
Honestly, classic Nintendo. It’s been almost 20 years since the Wii and they still don’t get how online gaming works, lmao.
I had no issues. Gotta make sure they have game chat set up to send them an invite.
Japanese devs and even slightly intuitive UI/UX design do not go hand in hand
It boggles my mind their online social features are still behind Xbox from nearly 20 years ago
I cannot even open the game chat. My screen just goes gray and the app stops responding.

Another example of Nintendo botching anything online related
Sounds like how discord works when you’re calling one on one with a friend
Nintendo still 15 years behind on online, its not even funny at this point.
And this shit costs money xd
Typical software growth. You’re trying to hit the date so you launch the bare min then add in the additional features after.
It’s like forcing someone to delete and recreate a submission and then later adding edit. Annoying at the start but it works until you can finish the more complicated and better experience.
Nintendo Outdated as usual.
The year is 2025 and Nintendo still hasn’t figured out hotjoining.
What else is new
