Really? Well what is it? It sure isn’t “make as many appealing games as possible”…

Don’t worry guys Sony is going to corner the market on cancelled live service games

Idk what I expected from this sub, but as someone who owns both, theyre just very different consoles going for different things, and thats OK! PlayStation with their platform is all about a giant box by your TV and maximizing what you can do with that and delivering cinematic experiences. Switch is a flexible platform that *can* be on the TV but is built around this beautiful screen and handheld experience that particularly makes playing long games so much more convenient. I think they’re very different and not really in direct competition – I certainly make good use of both.

Yeah because Sony counts on being the big boy console and being a better place for playing online
Not saying it’s better or worse. Just saying that’s what the brand is.

I mean, he’s not really wrong. Chances are people aren’t going to buy a switch or a ps5. Most people that are very into gaming are probably going to get both, and more casual gamers are likely to only buy the switch 2 anyway so I doubt they’re all that worried.

The guy says an extremely respectful thing about a competing product/brand and people in the comments immediately get defensive.
It’s this guy’s job to quell investor fears. Of course he’s going to talk about how his own brand will continue to move forward and sell product. Did some of you expect a, “great job Nintendo! We will start packing our bags now…” comment?

Anyone who’s followed, and agrees with, [Crossroads Capital’s 2021 Nintendo thesis](https://www.crossroadscap.io/investor-letters/annual-letter-to-investors-2021) (I did and still do) knows that the business strategies are differentiated. Nintendo is not one of the combatants in any console war. Plenty of pie out there when you don’t have to fight for it!

Granted ps and nintendo used to not compete directly. But with the price of switch 2 increasing. Ppl are gonna have to choose between the two of them. Not many can afford to have both like they did in the last generation. And with sony having ps plus (however shitty the service has become as of late) at least they have a way for ppl to play games in a cheaper way. Nintendo is soon gonna have to come up with a similar service where they give monthly switch games. All these givingaway of retro nostalgic games is only going to take them so far.

Their strategy to announce a bunch if GAAS then cancel then is not doing well. If they only had made Destiny 3 the priority maybe I’d feel different.
Hell imagine if they put D3 on Switch!?!
buddyGG
They do target different audiences but many gamers will get both. I couldn’t go without a PS5 because I love Sony’s in-house games like Last of Us or God of War and I definitely couldn’t go without a Switch 2 because it’ll play the next Mario, Zelda and Pokemon.

Playstation is launching a handheld along the PS6 in 2027/2028 though.

This isn’t Highlander, there can be more than one.

PlayStation has nothing to fear. They appeal to a completely different customer base.
Nintendo and PlayStation are not in direct competition with one another other than a very basic level of both being video game companies. The competition stops there.
The people who are die hard PS only players couldn’t care less about the types of games on Nintendo systems. The people who strictly game on Nintendo consoles generally don’t care about the types of games on PlayStation.
I’m fortunate enough to own both. So i can pick and chose. But Nintendo stopped competing with Sony and Microsoft a few generations back and just does their own thing. Let Sony and Xbox “fight it out” which is stupid but this is human nature.

“Our strategery at Sony is simple. Add 1, then tack on a Pro, then add 1 and take off the pro. Remaster the remasters, and throw Kojima a bone every now and then.”

I mean Switch 2 plus PC is clearly all any gamer needs these days. Playstation is a very outdated concept now. Ps5 has hardly any exclusives and when the games come to pc they play better. Plus, consoles chained to a TV is just weird

Got a switch 2, played a ps5 and I want one. But for different reasons then the switch, I wanted the switch 2 to casually have fun with with experiences and gameplay whenever and wherever I like (hand held only user). I want the playstation for a big screen graphical showcase.
samppa_j
They’ve sold like 70 million ps5’s and they’re not worried when the switch 1 sold double, and they’re putting out another one for a cheaper price than your entry level console.

Sony is just going to continue to put out lackluster AAA titles with zero replay-ability, use of AI, and bad sound tracks
Glad Nintendo is still shining bright and not letting their foot off the industry’s neck!
