“Destined for failure” they said, well look how that went

TLDR
For comparison, the PS5 was able to sell 3.4 million units in the first four weeks of release during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first month of sales of the Xbox Series X was not publicly revealed by Microsoft.
Nintendo also sold 15 million units in its first year, so the Switch 2 was able to sell a third of the Switch’s first-year sales in a single month.

Still boggles the mind how there is a lack of updates or exclusives for Switch 2. The eshop is embarrassingly devoid of Switch 2 titles.
Metroid Prime Remastered is a good example of something that should just be 4K/60 a few days after launch, or at launch.
A YouTuber said the best reason to get a Switch 2 is not the exclusives but how Switch 1 games feel on Switch 2 – and after playing ToTK at 60fps and higher res I absolutely agree. I just need *more*

We don’t know.
What Nintendo (accidentally) posted on the website are just projections. They *plan* to sell 5 million in June, but it’s entirely possible they sell less. Or more.

Not really surprising. Sony had huge supply issues which stopped a lot of that early momentum. Nintendo didn’t make that mistake.

Update: As of July 1, 2025, at 5:15 am CT, Nintendo has removed the image of the total Switch 2 sales on its financial website. When you now check out the website, it only showcases the Switch 1 sales. We have reached out to Nintendo to see if this was an error on their part.

Luckily it survived Steamdecks market dominance.

As for every launch, these numbers basically confirm the number of consoles they produced up to this point. Still quite amazing.

Nintendo better have those factories on overdrive because Holiday shopping season is in 3-4 months.

But John reddit told me it would fail

This was here for a while, I think it’s projected sales and so the title is wrong

3.5m in a few days. 1.5m for the rest of the month.
Mmm.

It’s just a switch pro. It’s definitely gonna flop. /s
