Cheers,

The r/NintendoSwitch mod team

Mod note: There was a previous version of this post that was up for about ~10m that had a typo in the title that was going to drive me crazy. Sorry about that!

I played the demo last weekend, and the game itself is fun with a lot of potential. The double mouse control scheme is fresh and creative, and I personally enjoy it. The problem is that it’s simply too physically demanding for the kind of long play sessions this online game is built around. Nintendo clearly designed a ton of extra activities for downtime between matches, but the reality is players will tire out quickly. Without a traditional controller option, I can’t see most people lasting more than an hour at a time. For a less physically demanding game, this control method could be brilliant, but here it risks shrinking the active player base just because it wears people out too fast.

I honestly expected this to be at least A 60 game so seeing it under 60 on both meta and open is quite surprising. That’s not to say that I expected it to be a masterpiece but I at least expected it to be fun in some capacity. I don’t like how we’ve had 2 games with welcomed tour that feel like they were both tech demos that would have worked great as free games installed on all systems to give people an idea of the different controls, but for some reason Nintendo instead tried to make a quick buck and now they’re going to be easily forgotten about.

At least if Arms it was a fun game with good character design that had its moment in the spotlight and even had a small tournament at launch with this though colours are so bland I worry that it’s just been put out there to die

I had a good time with it I would not hesitate to buy it if it was 14.99 but at a price point of 19.99 I really can’t complain since it’s pretty repayable and utilizes a new control scheme. Also something else I really like is that the style and graphics give me an old school arcade game vibe. Can’t wait to play some more on release.

  4. I have no idea how, from the beginning of development to the release of the trailer, no one piped up and said “maybe this is a little too goofy, and not in a good way”.

  5. CommunicationTime265

I knew this was doomed to fail. Just doesn’t look interesting.

  6. I played the game. At first I was using a desk. My arms felt fatigue after about ten minutes. I read a suggestion to try it on your legs instead. This was much better, but now I felt it more in my wrists. Then I read a suggestion from someone to use the SIDES of your legs, which lets you hold the joycons in a much more natural, relaxed way. THIS is the answer. When I played like this, I felt zero fatigue, and it felt VERY natural.

I think Nintendo should have suggested this method, and I think it only clicks when played this way. Also, per usual, I think the reviewers missed the mark on this one. I highly recommend for a unique experience.

  7. If the game had more flair I’d be interested but it just seems so lifeless.

  8. GaryAGalindo

Is this the worst rated 1st party Nintendo game of all time?

  9. SpikesAreCooI

I honestly really liked this game. It’s not the greatest game Nintendo has made, but y’know for what it is and what it tries to do, I think it works. It’s sad this game will mostly likely die off soon, I had fun playing the demos.

  10. MrLuckyTimeOW

I think we all knew this game was going to be dead on arrival.

Why didn’t they try to bundle this with the console? At least then it might have been received a bit better.

  11. Three_Froggy_Problem

I can’t speak to the gameplay because I didn’t play the demo, but visually the game is really unappealing in a way that’s kind of surprising for a Nintendo joint.

  12. fakemuseum

This team‘s never made a good game. So it’s no surprise this game sucks. They are the team behind 1-2 Switch, Switch Sports, GBG that enough to unsell anything.

  13. ctyldsley

This should have been a F2P Nintendo game to encourage Switch Online sign ups. Combined with also having significantly more character than the lifeless aesthetic they went with.

Honestly there’s a lot of potential here with the concept but they fucked it.

  14. DrSussBurner

When I saw it revealed I thought it was cool that we were getting a wheelchair basketball game. It is definitely different, and gamers bitch and complain that the large development studios are too safe, and we don’t get weird shit anymore, like in the GameCube days, or whatever.

I also thought: I have no interest in this.

  15. This is the 1-2 Switch and Nintendo Switch Sports team, which makes them three for three on mediocrity.

  16. badblocks7

The lack of character here absolutely baffled me right from the start. Everyone was talking about the controls and gameplay but honestly even if that was flawless, it looks so lifeless and unappealing. Why are we in a dark gray warehouse? That is so un-Nintendo

  17. Walnut156

Oh I didn’t even realize it was coming out today. This sorta gives me arms vibes where if you want to enjoy it you need to play it early before people stop playing it. However arms at least had single system play and actual characters and a world.

At least this is 20 bucks

  18. Why tf doesn’t Nintendo give something like this to its NSO subscribers?

  19. QuantumProtector

It’s original and very fun to play. $20 is a reasonable ask to me, but I would probably wait until it’s on sale.

  20. darth_snuggs

Mainly I’m bummed that this game’s mediocrity will deter developers from trying to do cool stuff with the mouse controls

  21. InfiltrationRabbit

I give this game a 2.5/10… fell flat

  22. BenjiSBRK

60 aggregated score for a game that I had no particular enthusiasm for, I’ll pass.

  23. This is a typical “fun game” but not mind-blowing fun.

For me the demo felt like, whoever picked up the ball first went to the defense side and score.

Hardly anyone played as a team, pass the ball, try to grab the ball in the air when someone tries to score. Never try to bump into someone.

I tried it. I tried waiting at the opposite site to be available for a pass. Everybody just whooshed past me to make that point themselves.

People with either be cracked or suck I guess. It doesn’t give the adrenaline like Rocket League would have if I have to compare it to somewhat a same kind of ball game.

  24. rlinkmanl

I enjoyed this for what it was during the demo, but I wasn’t very good at it and have no time to spend getting good at it anymore because I have a young kid now so I doubt I’ll get it just to get embarrassed constantly online lol

  25. thePhilosopherTheory

Cant believe there’s no local multiplayer

  26. Not having split screen for such a niche title is disappointing.

  27. QuinSanguine

I was hoping for a surprise. I got one! Just not the positive one I hoped for, lol.

  28. jerkspamz

It was fun when I played this at the Switch 2 experience… it’s just not as fun when it’s $20. 🤷‍♂️

  29. neondrifter

    OOF

I liked the global jam too.

    But those reviews are terrible

  30. thegoldengoober

Should have invested into Arms 2 instead
