:/ Hi everyone, I’m new to this whole reddit. I’m not artist, I can’t draw, or paint, or create digital art in sense, I am quite the opposite. Though over this summer break I did create something that I thought was cool and would like to get others opinions possibly.
Over the summer break I created a console app program using Visual Studio with C# as its language and using a database that I created for Pokemon and generalized Pokemon information. Using that database I created a mobile style console app program. In it users can create profiles, choose starter Pokemon, send them out of simulated battles and earn experience points to level up and earn “Poke Coins” that’s used to purchase Poke Balls to catch more Pokemon and ASCII art. <- That’s the artistic part lol. It scales and levels Pokemon with stats, allows for nicknames and earns wins/losses for the Pokemon. Earning wins—gaining levels— and purchasing ASCII art in the “Poke Mart”. The goal is Pokémon’s simplicity, fill the Pokédex. Unlocking new ASCII art is what I was shooting for. I work a lot on the computer, so I keep this up either on one of the screens, on the side of my laptop, or on my laptop itself when I’m working on a computer at school. It’s something I can quickly tab to send a Pokemon out, simulate a few minutes of battling while reading or working, check on it in a few minutes and check the progress. Did I win or lose the battle? It helps curb my attention when it’s already hard enough to keep it onto the computer.
I call it a “Fidget App” since it’s an app that I usually fidget with. It’s entertaining to watch as ASCII art gets printed within the console or to watch the printing of the battle results. It’s all a “Higher/Lower” war style program. Scores get calculated off of stats—levels— and chosen moves. Status moves alter stats. So if growl reduces an opponents stats with “-70% Opponent Attack” or so, would reduces the opponents attack significantly reducing that Pokémon’s stats resulting in a lower stat-score.
It’s not an artistic drawing— or painting— or digital art and video. :/ In a weird way to me, it’s my own kind of style of art. My son and I love it. 🙂 Hope you guys enjoy. Please let me know if you guys have any ideas on how to make it better or what to improve on or what else. I used official Pokemon artwork as the ASCII art. I coded like several different image converters from an image file to an output text file creating the ASCII art. It uses different character sets and borders as well so it allows me to greatly diverse the ASCII art. Allowing each Pokemon their own respective art.
If this doesn’t belong here, I’m so sorry, please forgive me. I do not “Reddit”. I’m not entirely a social person. Though, as someone who has always had a late jump to life I do not know what’s allowed, what to do— or in general how to make a post. This is legit my first post. Please forgive me for the intrude. I don’t really know how to share it I suppose. I recorded a screen recording of how the ASCII art prints I guess I could’ve took a screenshot but I think the printing of the ASCII would’ve been missed.
