Hey everyone,
I was watching a YouTube video about N64DD ROMs YouTube video and noticed the creator seemed to be playing a disc version of Super Mario 64. I was under the impression that Nintendo never released Mario 64 on 64DD.
I’ve read that:
- At Shoshinkai 1996, Nintendo showed Super Mario 64 running on 64DD hardware as a tech demo.
- Some people claim that in 2014, a French collector found a 64DD prototype disk of Super Mario 64 with higher-quality audio, different castle music, and long loading times.
From what I can tell:
– The Shoshinkai demo is real, but it was never meant for public release.
– There’s no verified proof of a dumped 64DD prototype of Mario 64. Reports about the 2014 discovery seem unconfirmed.
– Any claims about audio differences or loading times are speculative, since no actual prototype has been preserved publicly.
I’m curious if anyone here has more reliable info or sources about the supposed 64DD version, or if it’s mostly fan speculation.
Thanks.
