10 Hours of Waiting, Failed Technology, and a Ruined Milestone Birthday at Super Nintendo World

My 9-year-old son, a huge Mario fan, had his birthday ruined by a complete system failure at Super Nintendo World Orlando.

After spending 10 hours in the park, the key ride (Mine-Cart Madness) failed.

It's extremely disappointing to see the Nintendo brand's quality standard compromised by a partner's operational collapse and subsequent bad customer service.

Has anyone else seen this kind of quality control failure on a major Nintendo license?

That’s an inevitability in theme parks, there will always be malfunctions, you just got unlucky

That ride breaks down a lot, broke down a little the day I went as well. But also, it’s 1 2/3 minute roller coaster, don’t let it ruin your sons trip.

What?  Rides break down all the time. It’s a brand new theme park that is still going through growing pains.

There’s other attractions and shows to see whilst Donkey Kong was down.

If you had spoken to a guest services team member calmly and politely they would have been able to do something for you.

These rides are big, complex machines – malfunctions happen at every park, from small local parks to Disney.

You’re complaining that a theme park ride had a technical issue?

    Seriously?

Dude, you need to get a grip. Mechanical systems can have issues randomly, at no real fault of the company behind that IP that has nothing to do with the construction or maintenance of the ride. This isn’t a failure of quality standards. It’s a fact of life when dealing with complex mechanical systems where any sort of issue requires shutting things down so someone doesn’t get hurt.

You can be disappointed, but this is fucking childish.

Sometimes rides break down. Disappointing for your kid I’m sure but it happens all the time, dude.

Imagine the entitlement of spending 10 hours at a theme park without complaint, having one issue go wrong, and saying the entire day was ruined.

Rides breakdown. You had 10 hours at a park. I sure hope your kid doesn’t feel the same way as you. This failure to moderate emotion would be alarming in my child. But in an adult, it’s a huge red flag.

  8. First time outside?

Complex mechanical stuff breaks down, especially at theme parks, no ones fault. It’s better that they closed the ride than continue to let people ride it dangerously.

    Get a grip.

  9. Hey, as a parent myself, let me give you a little bit of advice. I get it, when something goes wrong on a special day, especially your kid’s birthday, it can really throw you off. You probably had this picture perfect idea in your head of how everything would go, and when one part of it fell apart, it felt like the whole day was ruined. But that’s not really how your child will see it.

If you make everything about the one misfortune, the broken ride, the plan that did not work out, you are missing the bigger picture. Kids do not hold on to small disappointments the way adults do. What they will actually remember is that they got to spend the day with you. They will remember laughing, eating cake, running around, and feeling like the day was all about them. That is what sticks, not the one ride that did not work.

So do not let one setback define the entire memory. Take a breath and remind yourself what really matters. You are not just giving your kid a fun day, you are teaching them how to handle disappointment, how to laugh things off, and how to see the good even when things do not go as planned.

At the end of the day, your child got to spend their birthday with their parent, and that is the part that counts the most. You are missing the forest for the trees if you focus on what went wrong instead of everything that went right. Reset, let go of the frustration, and remember your priorities. Life is too short, and childhood is even shorter.

You made 8 posts, multiple Google reviews and multiple social media posts to yell that a theme park ride didn’t work on YOUR child’s birthday. Are you serious? Have you or your family never been told no in your life?

  11. As somebody who used to go to Cedar Point regularly for many years, roller coaster maintenance and failures happen.

Not sure what you expect to happen complaining on reddit about it

Going on the year 1 of a park and complaining about system failur of a ride….

  13. You are everything that is wrong with the world today.

It sucks to have a ride fail on you, but also, this feels very pathetic. There’s being upset, then there’s… whatever the hell this is supposed to be.

Translation: “I spent 10 hours in the park having fun but was mildly inconvenienced by a ride malfunction at the end so I demand to speak to the manager!”

Brother, you are literally a textbook Karen.

I don’t even know where to begin.

The Donkey Kong ride is great, but it’s not the best thing about Super Nintendo World (the general area, themed treats, and character meets are definitely the main attraction – in addition to the queue for Mario Kart).

Also, the ride and park are both less than a year new. It’s a pretty well known/documented thing that being able to ride them isn’t a guarantee in a given visit – especially if you only budget a day at the park.
It’s also a known thing that you need to prioritize these rides when planning your day as a result. 10 minutes of internet research would have told you that the park is super crowded, wait times are super long, and that the rides experience some regular down-time, etc.
How did you read this information and not caution your child that you may not be able to do everything in a day?
How did you spend thousands of dollars on a trip without understanding what you were getting into and the risk? And this is Universal, which is a walk in the park to plan compared to Disney.

When Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure was new, it was much more of a nightmare than Donkey Kong, and still suffers from 2+ hour wait times that don’t let up later in the evening like DK does (i.e. potentially not do-able for at all for a child).

I don’t know anything about your child’s situation, but it sounds like you are projecting your own disappointment on to him, and you certainly emotionally set him up for disappointment.

Most children don’t even get to go to Epic Universe within its opening year to begin with.

I sometimes wish there was a hotline where we could report crap like this because it borderline seems like emotional abuse. I know this is probably AI crap, but this is one of the more insane things I’ve seen on here in a while.
