I can’t say it doesn’t take any work to implement mouse controls or update resolutions. And I’m not about to advocate for that work being done for free.

But on the consumer side of things, it’s a little funny to see a bunch of content (presumably. I stopped watching after a couple min but the rest of the video was the free part) for free, and then the resolution update and some other switch2 things are a paid upgrade.

  2. But it’s another rerelease..? Where is a new switch 2 version animal crossing?

  3. Skullghost

Animal Crossing Switch 2 Edition game is $64.99 USD MSRP. With an upgrade pack of $4.99 USD for original owners of the game

  4. hypermads2003

There goes them saying that Animal Crossing is done with free updates

    I’m so excited

  5. gaysaucemage

This is cool, but also I’m so disappointed about what this likely means for the next game.

If New Horizons is getting a Switch 2 update 2 months short of the 6 year anniversary, that probably means no new Switch 2 game til 2028 at the earliest.

Finally, you’re able to craft multiple of the same items at once if you have the resources.

  7. Agreeable-Chap

Tulin is moving to my island IMMEDIATELY when the update launches. What a huge chunk of news to drop on a random Thursday.

The Switch 2 upgrade pack is $5 USD. I think that’s more than fair. Oddly enough, no price is listed in the Canadian PR.

    https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/animal-crossing-new-horizons-sails-ashore-with-a-nintendo-switch-2-edition-and-free-content-update-jan-15/

    $5USD gets you:

    – Improved resolution (4K in TV mode)***.

    – Mouse controls with the right Joy-Con 2 controller to decorate indoors, create Custom Designs and even compose hand-written bulletin-board messages.

    – Locate residents by calling their names using the in-game megaphone item and the built-in Nintendo Switch 2 microphone.

    – Join 12-player sessions for online sessions if everyone is playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

    – Play with friends via CameraPlay****. Connect a compatible USB camera (sold separately) and see their reactions in-game while exploring your island together.

Edit: For those confused about this.

The game is receiving a free upgrade to version 3.0 which includes a bunch of new things. That’s free for Switch 1 + 2. The $5 upgrade is a seperate upgrade for Switch 2 only which gives you the 5 features I wrote above.

What’s the difference between the hotel and the Happy Home Paradise DLC?

  10. Zelda1500

I’m so excited for this! The Zelda and playable classic consoles are so sick!

  11. Are they Serious! We are getting a new update after all these years and an upgraded Switch 2 version?

  12. LunaIsADeer

Holy– That update is so much bigger than I thought it would be.

  13. SamsungAppleOnePlus

They straight up did everything people wanted, or at least found a way to do it that works with New Horizons. Roundabout way to have multiple islands for example (as a creative mode by the way!).

Yooo the first game where I’ll actively use mouse mode. This is great. This game has weirdly been really hard for me to go back to because I was able to get a switch one during the pandemic and it was around the time this game came out so every time I go back to play it it kind of reminds me of that time, but I think this is what I needed to finally go back to a full-time, I’m super excited

  15. reversezer0

    Out. Of. Nowhere.

Version 3 looking litty with resetti and the dream islands. Exciting.

  16. The-student-

Cool stuff. The dream islands are interesting since you can design them with friends. Also looked like you could craft multiples of objects?

My main concern is that online is just as inconvenient as it always has been, but hopefully the loading is quicker on switch 2.

  17. Geekenstein

Must be a new pandemic around the corner. What does Nintendo know!?

  18. Ancient_Emu_3346

Yo Xzibit here, we heard you like Animal Crossing and retro console games so we put retro console games inside your Animal Crossing (if you have a Nintendo Online™ membership now on sale click here to subscribe)

  19. yntsiredx

So… the Xenoblade and TTYD updates are just gonna be shadow announced, huh?

  20. geoffrey1986

We thought this game was “dead” after 2021. And here we are getting a free version 3.0 in 2026! Amazing. I can’t believe it.

  21. Dr_Fluffybuns2

I’m happy we got it. It’s better than nothing and looks like new furniture series but I do feel a bit disappointed that they’re really focusing on this being a decorating game more than what Animal Crossing has always been about. I want life in my island, nookington upgrades, stores and npcs in general. But overall anything to keep my village alive and talking to the villagers who right now are just reskins of each other saying the same dialogue.

I miss when they were rude to you but slowly built friendship and you used to play mini games like hide and seek with them. I had a reason to work towards stuff in older games that wasn’t just decorating 😭

  22. InvestigatorUnfair

Yoooo the Zelda stuff is ba-

    *Amiibo required to unlock*

… Well the hotel stuff seems neat at least.

  23. swiftsquatch

Oh hell yeah!!!! I’m starting a new island 😍 it’s been so long since I’ve played, but this update looks so fresh and I haven’t wanted to play on Switch 2 without having a resolution boost. So this is perfect!!

  24. Independent-Ear-3352

    IT”S BEEN YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

  25. Mattsfiesta

HOLY DUCK I did not expect new Animal Crossing updates in 2025! Woo hoo!

  26. Mogellabor

The collabs are nice even through some of the splatoon and zelda stuff isn’t new. Wish we’d also get the old outfits for Cece and Viche

  27. WarpmanAstro

Honestly, I’m glad they had the common sense to make all thr 3.0 update stuff apply to both Switch and Switch 2. It would have been *very* easy for them to make that the hook for getting people to buy the Switch 2 version.

  28. Macho-Fantastico

Honestly shocked we’re getting a Switch 2 upgrade, let alone brand new content. Didn’t think we’d see it. I’d have been happy with just the 4K upgrade but the new content seems awesome. I love the new collaborations to, I’m totally having a Lego room.

Shame we have to wait till January, but it’ll be worth it.

  29. RedditingNugget

Animal Crossing jumpscare on a random Thursday morning

Finally, Zelda items! And cool we can play actual games on the console items again, shame it requires the online subscription though… and it sounds like it might only be one game per console based on how they worded it in the trailer?

  30. This update will make the long winter of our discontent a little bit cozier.

  31. StarrieScars

I’m very happy about this. I bet there’s loads of qol updates they haven’t mentioned in the video. They quietly showed off bulk crafting. There’s still some stuff I would’ve liked to see, like minigames and shop upgrades, but I’m happy with what we have gotten. Building islands in creative mode is gonna be great, especially with friends. It reminds me of minecraft. I’m so glad to see the megaphone again too, finding villagers is now a lot easier.

But does this mean a new animal crossing game will now be delayed by a few years, and will we see a swicth 2 edition because of this update 👀

  32. mjmannella

This is a pretty rockin’ update, I gotta say. But I really wish there was a way to gift people fish, bugs, and deep-sea critters. Would help a lot with seasonal changes.

  33. AdventurousWealth822

This just makes pikmin 4 not getting a switch 2 edition all the more confusing.

  34. BubbleBobbleBetty

Crafting multiple items at once. At last…at last…

  35. Ilikegymbros

That was cool, but it didn’t add anything I wanted. No new shops for your island or customizable buildings. Sigh, maybe next time

  36. Wtf is a dream island why can’t we just have multiple islands? All I want is to be able to start a new island without losing my old one.

  37. mightbedylan

🙁 this bums me out… Just means longer time with the worst Animal Crossing game… Was really hoping we got the sequel announcement soon but this means the announcement is at least a year out, game itself is probably years away

  38. Low-Statistician4077

OK, so do we think that basically all of the top-selling Switch 1 games are going to eventually end up with Switch 2 Editions? Because I really want a Smash Ultimate Switch 2 Edition, but also feel like it’s not something Sakurai would do.
