Imo, Breath of the Wild was a much better game than Tears of the Kingdom

  2. thedoommerchant

Idk if I can necessarily argue about it. Both games are masterpieces and showcase Nintendo at their finest.

  3. junglespycamp

TOTK is the better game but honestly why pick one of the other? And like all lists the rankings don’t matter that much because it’s all subjective

  4. TunaSafari25

They’re not even the best or most impressive Zelda games of all time.

  5. Darth_Pumpernickel

Recency bias is real man. Tears of the Kingdom was such a disappointment for me tbh.

  6. I’d argue that those aren’t even the top two Nintendo games on Switch.

  7. ZanzibarGem44

Great games but a bit too predictable. I would personally put BotW above TotK just because of the newness of that style of gameplay for the series. It’s a pretty good list if not a bit standard in taste.

  8. AleroRatking

The ocarina of time disrespect is getting crazy.

  9. There is no way in hell totk should be number 1.

  10. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island being so low already disqualified this list for me sorry.

  11. I personally don’t really agree with the concept of a ranking like this, it’s nearly impossible to pick a number 1 that won’t upset tons of people

Imo just do a best nintendo games list, no ranking

  12. PreferenceGold5167

    Nah
    Lmaoooooooo

1 and 2 is crazy not even the order which i disagree with

Of all time too? Of every game?

  13. RikiJesus

Honestly embarassing, with all the history that nintendo has

  14. Kylebrandon49

Maybe it’s nostalgia but I will never forget the first time I played Mario 64 and ocarina of time. Not saying botw doesn’t deserve to be on that list but the impact of Mario and Zelda during the 64 era was unlike anything the industry was doing at the time. I can’t in good faith rate botw or totk higher than Mario 64 and ocarina of time.

Voting them separately honestly feels weird to me. It’s like talking about my favorite movies of all time, I always lump together things like The Lord of the Rings as one rather than 3 movies.

I gotta agree. For me LttP was always just slightly a hair above Ocarina, I totally get why people called it the top for so long and it’s a deserved spot for its legacy, but I still get more satisfaction from LttP.

But the BotW came along and leaped ahead to my top spot, so far ahead that I couldn’t imagine anything going above. Then TotK came along and literally every 10 minutes it felt like I kept saying whoa, look at this, I can’t believe the devs put this detail on the game. TotK just improved on the BotW formula in nearly every single area from small improvements to huge, and fixed nearly every possible complaint I could ever have for BotW. TotK is a near perfect game for me. But I also understand why it’s not for others, if you aren’t someone that pays attention to the details and the dev work, but just play the game without paying close attention, I think most people miss what’s there and probably don’t understand why it took 5+ years to finish. As soon as I started playing, I was like, oh, _now I see_ why it took five years to make this game when they already had the engine and the surface map. I think most people don’t have that sense of appreciation for what went into it.

  17. Hard to trust this when Galaxy was at like #29…

I have been a resident Zelda lover since I was 4 (23 now) and I must say… BOTW and TOTK are fun but they will never beat Twilight Princess, Majoras Mask, or Wind Waker. I think Zelda shines most when it is more linear

  19. spooked_mantaray

I love both of those games and can’t say many negative things about them but I can’t help miss the traditional style of older Zelda games. Botw/totk dungeons don’t come close to other Zelda dungeons and personally thought the characters had more personality back then.

  20. VegetableRoof1401

I would have enjoyed the games a lot more if it wasn’t for the weapon system. Weapon breaking is fine but I was afraid to use any weapon too much and break it. They broke too fast. That being said I loved both games and thought TotK was better than BotW

  21. Steppyjim

I disagree. I’m one of the biggest Nintendo nerds ever since the N64 days, and while the games are excellent, there are so many things that go into a game to make it the best ever. You really can’t just say one game is the very best. Especially when there are so many genres and art styles in games

  22. johnnycoxxx

I don’t even have either of them in my top 5 Zelda’s

  23. lolschrauber

    I kinda struggle with this.

BOTW was great – TOTK felt like it expanded on it a lot but at the same time reused a lot of BOTW.

I wouldn’t put them on 1 & 2, I’d almost feel tempted to rank them together as one.

  24. well u/Abtun ‘s favorite Nitendo game is Twilight Princess. Suck it IGN!

  25. Can’t believe they put the remake above the original.

  26. MiraclesMeanNothing

don’t give a shit what IGN says or does

  27. Odyssey at #4 was more surprising to me. Naming it the best 3D Mario game of all time was a bold choice.

  28. Feels like recency bias, especially with how “in” open-world games are right now. Ocarina of Time (my personal GOAT) and A Link to the Past (IMO the best-aging game ever made) are better Zelda games in the franchise than those two, and I think Majora’s Mask, and Link’s Awakening are also solidly better. That also doesn’t account for Super Mario Bros. (the game literally revived the video game industry after the 1983 crash), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 (pioneered 3D gaming), Super Metroid (helped establish an entire genre of gaming) and Super Smash Bros. Melee (up there with SF2 for one of the most enduring fighting games of all-time).

I think Breath of the Wild being somewhere in the top 10 can be justified (I don’t particularly like the game but I appreciate what it tried to do and the impact its had, for better or worse and everyone’s mileage my vary on it), but Tears of the Kingdom is one of the more disappointing games in recent memory.

  29. undermind84

Tears of the Kingdom is an absolute wild choice in my opinion. Not even in the top 5 Zelda games.

  30. grilled_pc

The are good games but defs not worthy of the greatest of all time lol

  31. Routine-Sun-670

Unpopular opinion, but I personally place Mario 3, Galaxy 2, 3D World and Mario 64 over Odyssey.

  32. Ok-Race-1677

“Nintendo pays for its two most expensive and acclaimed games to be acclaimed”

  33. Panpancanstand

Really? I beat both… not sure I agree. Nintendo has games that fundamentally changed videogames as a whole. These weren’t that.

  34. IGuessImDemons

Ocarina of Time at the VERY least should be above TotK. I don’t think TotK would even crack my top 10 of best Nintendo games

  35. Thats crazy because I honestly wouldn’t even consider BotW the best Zelda game of all time, let alone Nintendo game of all time.

  36. Dreyfus2006

Complete joke. Can’t take this person’s opinion seriously. I love TotK but it is ***way*** too flawed compared to the many masterpieces Nintendo has made. The writing is a complete joke and the dungeons are some of the weakest in the whole Zelda series. Calls into question their entire list.
