> Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an excellent, if relatively uneven, revival that reaches heights worthy of the Metroid name in its best moments.

Really useful and informative review! I’ve historically been a bit wary of shooters (I was never any good playing Halo at friends’ houses lol), but this is making me want to try out Prime Remastered.
GaryBassline
Exactly what I expected. Was hoping for an all time great like the original Prime but my expectations were more realistic

Why do people still listen to ign or reviewers in general
Automatic-Unit-8307
Interestingly, all the bad reviews with 60 or under are from Europe . They really love EA sports in Europe and can’t stand Nintendo
jcgonzmo
I know they are different reviewers, but it is surprising how different IGN Spain is from IGN USA. The spanish reviewers just seem to be more light hearted.

Logan is a dependable reviewer and super knowledgeable on Metroid, as well as most Nintendo franchises. I trust his review. He had me scared with his preview thoughts but it looks like he was relieved from most of his problems from it.

So the chatty companions might tone down and be slightly less annoying than we expected (still don’t like it personally) but the motorcycle is exactly the useless gimmick many of us thought it was
Excited to play this regardless but not sure why they try and change a formula that works, especially in a half ass way
jnighy
Great review btw. It’s weak where I expected it was and strong where it needs to be
JDReedy
Lot of the metacritic reviews mention the heavy handholding is there for the full game and it’s not just the tutorial. Biggest disappointment of the year.
MarcsterS
A lot of the reviews are super mixed. Some are treating the NPCs like a nuisance constantly nagging you, one doesn’t care becuase they’re not super present, and another says they like them.
I waited 7 years. I’m just gonna play it for myself. I’m not getting into this drama again.

I just smashed my TV in front of 30 guests at my party because of this game. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at a hotel. This review has ruined my life and my party. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye Metroid. I am no longer a fan.

lmao after all this time, a fucking 8/10, thats a great game. but i just know everyone wanted a 10/10 – GGGGGG

8/10 – “Too much sand”
Adorable_Ad_3478
8/10 is not bad in a vacuum but I think the real question everyone will be asking is: “a delay of over 5 years for JUST an 8/10?”.
RsnCondition
Metroid 4 got the Duke nukem forever treatment, but actually came out decent.

My hot take: Metroid’s true home is 2-D. I can roll with the Prime series mostly, but the best Metroid since Fusion has been Dread.
This is looking too much like Call of Bounty for my taste.
syphon3980
The NPC element kinda ruined it for me. Hopefully they will come out with one that’s on par with 3, for the switch 2
Full_Metal18
Excited but I’ll probably get it after the holidays, I’ve got too much on my plate at the moment lol
SSj_CODii
Looks like a fair score to me. I am not stoked about the desert section especially, but it sounds like the parts of the game that are most important to me are intact.

Unfortunately, it seems like the game is just good. Not an all-timer, not horrendously offensive, just good. Maybe even great depending on if you can overlook the ways in which it stumbles.
Honestly, though Metroid is known for consistently delivering “great” games and fans have high expectations for the series, especially this one given its long dev cycle and how many years it’s been between Prime games, maybe we can just take “good” for this one. This is a mostly new team from the originals starting from scratch on a project that already failed once. And given the state of some things in the game, its likely Retro Studios had some behind the scenes trouble of their own. I know we like to hold up narratives like the original Prime where an incredibly hectic and cursed dev cycle somehow still managed to churn out a masterpiece, but circumstances like those are exceptionally rare. Usually, what you get is just bad if not mediocre mush. A game that even scratches the level of the original Prime is a hell of a lot better than most stories like this turn out.
And on some level I get the frustration. Though much better reviewed by critics and less controversial at launch, Tears of the Kingdom was a highly disappointing follow-up to one of those “changed your life” sort of titles. I could name a hundred different things that rub me the wrong way about the game, but I think ultimately, it was still a good game at its core. Once again, maybe even great depending on what type of gamer you are. And sometimes, when its put into perspective a bit, I’m okay with that.

Im not watching or reading any of these reviews. Im already sold. Im going in blind as a shriekbat.
Sentinel10
So, long story short, doesn’t reach the height of its predecessors but still an incredibly strong return for Metroid Prime.
Given the wonky development cycle it had, I’ll take it.
lies_are_comforting
Disappointing.
Jaydh10
Bought a switch 2 for this game so I’m hoping it’s good lol
_TheRocket
considering it was IGN’s early impressions that sparked a lot of the worry around the NPCs, this is really positive to hear. So so excited to play this
Freddys_glove
I’ve heard good things about Miles Mackenzie.
This-Ad2321
So apparently it’s great except for the souped-up version of the ending fetch quest, which I already block out of my mind when thinking about the experience of the Prime games. I’m pretty sold
Exact_Bumblebee_9857
The exaggerated swagger of a blonde white girl.
Retail_Brainrot
ah yes, IGN, known for their trustworthy and accurate reviews done by people who can barely get out of the tutorial in most games when they can even be bothered to play them before reviewing.
well thats a wrap boys, pack it up, IGN says its good clearly nothing to see here. everythings fine.
fffan9391
I’m curious to try the mouse controls.
Owlguard33
It reads like it the elements that make the series strong are all there, but it’s just bogged down by questionable departures that reek of top-down corporate meddling. It feels like a 9/10 that got dragged down to an 8/10, rather than a 7/10 making it’s way to an 8/10…if that makes any sense.
Unfortunately, with the outrage click bait surrounding the game, + a relatively lukewarm score…I dont see this getting the same promotion from streamers/content creators, and fence sitters getting into it like Dread.
Most disappointing thing to me is the hand-holding. That’s sort of immersion-breaking for a game that is so heavily focused in immersion.
MyDogIsDaBest
Weird that GOTY only got an 8 on IGN.
Sparescrewdriver
Ok, wait for a sale.

I’m not gonna believe anyone’s review until I play the game myself and review it. I’ll make up my own mind on the game 😎👍🏻
TrumpLovesTHICCBBC
This is honestly terrible for a metroid game. Other M got around 8 as well. It’s very rare a game scores below 80 on metacritic either even if they’re pretty meh, there’s hoards of average games getting review inflation at this level. It looks like the worst metroid prime game based on the reviews. The millennial writing yikes
