I Built a Pokedex You Complete by Drawing Pokemon From Memory [OC]

I've always loved those "draw Pokemon from memory" videos where people try to sketch Pokemon without looking them up. After trying it with friends, I realized this would be perfect as an actual collectible challenge, so I built Sketchdex.

Sketchdex is a web app where you complete your own Pokedex by drawing every Pokemon purely from memory. Right now it has the original 151. The twist is you only get one attempt per Pokemon – once you draw it, that's your official entry. No redos.

You can try it as a guest (3 minutes per drawing) or sign up for an account (5 minutes per drawing). Each sketch gets saved to your personal Sketchdex, and once you've drawn a Pokemon, you unlock that Pokemon's community gallery where you can see everyone else's attempts and upvote your favorites. You can also share your entire Sketchdex or individual drawings with direct links, and browse other people's collections to see how they remembered the same Pokemon differently.

I'm still working on adding sketch trading between players, a battle system using your drawings, a fill tool, weekly or daily leaderboards, and an untimed pokedex for people who want to draw without pressure.

Link is in the comments! I've been working on this as a passion project and I'm excited to see what you all create.

Try it out and let me know:

  • what features would you like to see added?
  • any bugs or issues you run into
  • any feedback at all

Hope you have fun and please share with your friends!

context: I posted about this a few days ago and have since improved on a lot of feedback I received! thanks for the input and so far we have scaled to 200 users and over 550 sketches made 🙂 and thank you pepgold and pawmot_person for letting me use their drawings!
