It’s ridiculous. Why not give us actual choice? I’ve never seen a lazier game developer. But I’m not surprised considering they cut their budget for this DLC considerably.

Not sure why they bother. Both options always take to the same answer anyways.

Used to be that you’d at least get a few lines of funny flavor text if you picked the “wrong” option. A few text windows later and you converge back on the same path.
Nowadays, you can tell the dialogue is often scripted in such a way that it doesn’t matter what you picked, the NPC will respond identically regardless, because both of your choices are two different phrasings of the same idea.

At that point I don’t know why they didn’t just have one of the NPCs pair you all up. Nothing would’ve changed. All this does is make you feel like you’re contributing something meaningful to the plot

Yeah, I had to stop briefly when this came up because what’s the point of giving us an option on what to say when they’re both the exact same thing but worded differently.

Im pretty sure the “choices” in pokemon games nowadays is just an insert for “the main character said something”. Its not meant to be a choice, its meant to show that this is an actual line spoken by the main character and they aren’t just standing there silently.

They trying to be mass effect but cant

If it is a joke it’s not funny 🤣 honestly one of the few gripes I had with the game.

The dialogue in this game.
HE HAS IT. GO THERE. WE GO HERE. THEN I GO THERE. THERE IS COOL POKEMON IN THERE.

ngl, pokemon’s fake choices always annoyed me a bit but the “wrong option” at least had some funny dialogue at least, but they ain’t even trying

to me, the name Taunie sounds like the substitute teacher version of Tony. Go straight to O’Shag-Hennesy’s office.

Dialogue choices are not always meant to be about making a meaningful choice. They also sometimes get used to let players express themselves a bit, to show that the player character says something or to show off the determination of the character.
In this case the point seems to be to emphasize how the player character wants to go with Lida, other options don’t even exist for them.

I thought this was kinda funny. Reminded me of the “We all have a choice”/“There’s always a choice” options in Night in the Woods
I remember the days when an NPC would ask you to complete a quest, and you could actually choose the ‘no’ option resulting in a game over
your character just does not fucking want to go with taunie, which is as fair as it gets
Taking out the R in role playing game (often even the game part)
> Yes
> Yes, but it’s a different box
It’s the illusion of choice.
