Honestly I like the idea of L returning in the future, more specifically I like the idea of him being a sort of postgame NPC that has a major postgame quest where he goes around the game's region trying to help fix whatever problems the villains of the main story caused as a part of repaying for almost destroying the world in XY, expanding on his ZA story and making him kind of like a wandering man who doesn't expect to be forgiven for his past misdeeds and doesn't do it to feel good about himself but wants to help people and redeem himself no matter if no one forgives him, not even himself, and also possibly being an option super bosshe also could be a way for player's to get mega stones and new mega evolutions in future games in the post game, allowing the game's main story to focus on whatever it's new gimmick is while still allowing megas to come back as a post game bonus
