Is Genesect based on the FLAT mobile suits from Turn A Gundam?

I am watching Turn A Gundam for the first time and cannot shake the similarity– the coloring, the design, the way they pack down flat for flight mode, shiny Genesect being red and their being a red variant of the FLAT in the show….
