The Sylchik line. A two-stage, dimorphic “starter bird” ‘mon, that begins with predictable Normal/Flying stage 1.
Stage 2 is a gender-based branched evolution.
Both evolutions lose the Flying type.
Sylkhen keeps Normal, but adds Fairy.
Sylkroo becomes Dark/Fighting
(For balance: Fairy > Dark Normal < Fighting)
They are based on Silkie Chickens (how is the Torchic line the ONLY chicken ‘mon we have?!)
It took a while to get the Pokémon design feel right. Sylkhen was harder to make a believable ‘mon, and not just “basically cartoon chicken.” Also trying to balance more modern ‘mon design with the Sugimori-style watercolors, because that’s my favorite pokaésthetic.
Combination of hand-drawn concept/brainstorm to photo- to Procreate- to adding text and dex entries to bring these guys to life.
This is the first Fakemon I’ve created that I felt was worthy of sharing… but certainly not the first I’ve envisioned- or tried to draw.
I started playing the games when I was 8 or 9- (Blue Version, GameBoy Color- it was the hugest deal when Gold/Silver came out!).
So basically. Lifelong nerd. 🤓
