You wouldn’t believe how much people complained about this. Tons of players claimed they couldn’t visually identify their pokemon anymore. Seriously. I watched multiple people at raids pass other people their phones for help because they couldn’t recognize their pokemon to pick their teams and they couldn’t find things for trading.
Plus meanwhile most people including Niantic called the sprites 8-bit. They’re from the 32-bit Game Boy Advance.

Oh yeah I remember that, though I believe it was 2018. It’s cool but I prefer the normal Pokémon Go look as I think it’s cuter and easier to distinguish them all. Sprites like these can often be visually cramped and confusing in my opinion, especially when we have like 2000+ Pokémons in our Pokédex, this would hurt my eyes.
I agree with others though that it could be a cool setting so people could choose to turn it on or off.

Good times. It didn’t have the symbol for a shiny back then and my sister accidentally deleted some of hers because it didn’t look any different in the 8 bit form. It also didn’t ask if you are sure you want to delete. So many great improvements have been made to the game
