I Made Realistic Pokémon With Polymer Clay: Krabby and Kingler

As it is in real life, crabs are the ultimate body plan in the world of Pokémon.

I like to imagine that like our real world, the Kanto region has seen the "crab" body type evolve multiple times over across the millennia, eventually leading to what would be the true crabs of the region, Krabby and Kingler!

As is the case with most of the creations in this project to sculpt the entire 151 Kanto Pokédex, I never cared much for these two until I sat down to sculpt them. Its truly wild how much of a new appreciation I have for so many of these characters I have known my whole life, just by taking the time to look at them more closely and sculpt them.

I guess that's true to the experience of Pokémon though. You spend time in-game building them up, honing their abilities and evolving them to the point where they become vital to your play through. And by then, they have stolen your heart and cemented themselves as some of your favorite Pokémon of all time.

Kingler, as you can tell, has seen some truly gnarly battles in his time. His aged shell bares the stories of deep sea survival against the predatory likes of Tentacruels, Lapras, and Blastoise.

Krabby, on the other hand, is soft, untested by the harsh waters of such a brutal world.

As is the case with all of my Pokémon, these two hard-shelled, no nonsense crustaceans needed some nicknames.

NICKNAMES:

KRABBY – SQUIRE

KINGLER – PALADIN
