I would prolly remove energies, u don´t need that much, and add in some itmes/trainers to search for them, u are missing some important nest balls, (remove the bedes). If the deck IS expanded, the you shoul remove the potions and add 2 Big Malasadas in there.
Also you can switch the “Friends in Paldea card” for some lillie´s determinations.
and i would deffinetly remove the great balls, they aren´t that good nowadays, and add another 1-1 of darkrai v and v-astro there (like another copy of each one) and another professor´s letter.
The deck needs more than that, but with the things i mentioned, you will not pull a bad hand anymore, cause with the lillies, u can easily make the deck run well.

It’s important to start by playing meta-relevant decks to understand what it looks like to have a consistent deck and to learn sequencing. Designing your own deck is fine but the trial and error is frustrating and it’s too time consuming compared to the alternative.

Do they want to attend any local tournaments, or do they just want to play with friends for fun?
If they want to attend locals at all, they’ll need a Standard-legal deck. Currently Standard is *Scarlet and Violet-Phantasmal Flames,* and when Perfect Order releases it will be *Temporal Forces-Perfect Order.* I’d recommend Limitless for some Standard archetypes- you mentioned your friend likes Dark decks, there’s a variety of them doing well in the current meta.
If they just want to play tabletop casual with friends, it doesn’t really matter what’s in their deck- old cards, new cards, their favorites, anything goes. Personally would always recommend more search cards- Nest Ball and Ultra Ball will always find what you want unlike Great Ball and Dusk Ball. There’s also much better Supporters than those- Lillie’s Determination is an incredibly strong card that you’ll have a few of if you opened any Mega Evolution packs.
