Don’t get me wrong here, I want a new game too, but in the grand scheme of development times these days Zelda fans have been super lucky. We are far less lucky in my fandom of Elder scrolls or GTA…

u/thecornballer1 – Aren’t you forgetting that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a brand new game so that Statement is Nulled

I choose to view this as a good thing.

TOTK and BOTW are amazing. Time to let them cook.

  4. And it better stay this way until the game is nearly ready. I don’t want another 4 years wait like Tears of the Kingdom.

  5. Definitely helps that Echoes of Wisdom came out in between as well as the Switch 2 upgrades, but it’s definitely a little disheartening thinking about how we’re probably at least two years out from the next title.

2026 is the 40th Zelda anniversary and the next week will be 1000 days since Tears of the Kingdom release as you said… and NatetheHate said that next week there will be a Nintendo direct…

I’m okay with that. We’ll probably get another HD release for the 40th anniversary, since they did SS for rhe 35th.

I want them to really cook with the next one. Take that physics engine they built and take advantage of the new hardware power.

Announcment of a new, mainline 3d Zelda game? Maybe. But we’ve had 2 Zelda games announced and released since.

    REMASTER 👏 THE 👏 ZELDA 👏 CD-I 👏 GAMES 👏

  10. gf_for_the_weekend

doesn’t feel like it at all, but maybe that’s bc of all the other zelda releases, i wonder when we’ll get an announcement 2027? 28?

  11. kahabraham

Good. Announcing games that are half a decade away is something that shouldn’t exist anymore.

We don’t need an announcement, we know a new 3D Zelda is coming sooner or later.

  12. dosisgood

I know echoes of wisdom is in there, but even disregarding that, didn’t they announce totk super early compared to when it actually came out? Id rather they just wait awhile and announce it closer to release.

Some people in the comments are being pedantic around OP’s wording. It’s widely understood that there’s two branches of mainline Zelda games: 2D/top-down titles like Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom, and 3D games like Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. OP is talking about the latter.

If excluding Echoes of Wisdom from this bothers you, it may be better to consider the 3D descriptor as referring to movement in three dimensions, rather than two—and not to the game’s graphics.

In all fairness, they announced TOTK way too early

  15. okiedokiewo

Damn. It doesn’t feel like it came out that long ago!

  16. it was the longest gap? what was the gap between the Zelda Wii U trailer and release?

  17. XxXquicksc0p31337XxX

1000 days already, feels like it came out yesterday

  18. rechambers

This is (breath of the) wild to me because it genuinely felt like the wait between Skyward Sword and BOTW was an eternity longer. It’s probably due to just how dry the Wii U era was and the fact that we got random, off screen recordings of Zelda U for so long before we finally got a trailer.

  19. ShawnDaley

My memory is horrible, but what was the last time a big anniversary for a game came around and we got exciting announcements? It feels like it’s always “thanks for X years, here are some games that are 30% off for a week, a new mobile game, an overpriced remaster, and a cool statue”

Again my memory sucks so please shout out the awesome anniversary reveals!

  20. YourMomGoes2College_

Echoes of Wisdom: am I joke to you?

  21. Skroderider_800

Seriously, it’s been nearly 3 years? That’s crazy I would have said 1.5

  22. MummyUnderYourBed

Does Nintendo ever do what you expect or want them to do? I’m guessing no mention of Zelda in the direct and for the 40th anniversary, bare minimum finally releasing Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD. Either that or nothing at all.

  23. KingMercLino

My perception of time is gone. I really thought this game was only out for a year or two.

  24. Good. We all knew that another mainline 3D game wasn’t gonna materialize within just two or three years, and announcing games too early can really come back to bite you in the ass, as we’ve just seen with Metroid Prime 4.

I expect another remake/remaster to release next.

  25. MsHelvetica

    Twilight Princess remastered. Let’s go!!!

  26. naynaythewonderhorse

It’s worth mentioning that TotK was essentially done with development more than a YEAR before release. They spent the last year making sure it ran well.

Fans tend to overlook this. There seems to be this misconception that EVERYONE developing the game continued to work on the game for the last year.

Obviously, there are pre-development planners who long since moved on. Artists who aren’t making any new designs…and that’s JUST in that last year! There’s plenty of other people involved who would have moved on during TotK development.

Further, another thing fans overlook is that for the people making these games, this is literally their careers. They don’t take years off, maybe a vacation here and there, but it’s a full time gig that goes year round for their entire lives.

Not sure why people think that development on whatever comes next has simply stopped. (Actually, maybe I do know why. I think it has to do with Sakurai and Smash, and how his openness about his ability to take time off has created a misconception that his position is “the norm” for game development.)

All of this to say, whatever game is coming next is already 4+ years into development, and the likelihood of seeing it soon is a little higher than one would think.

  27. ONiMETSU_Z

Well there’s no way they do *another* game in the BOTW style, right? I really wanna see another twilight princess style world but obviously much more populated and full of things. We could easily have an overworld with a dozen feature dungeons that are actually challenging, and still have room for a dense world that isn’t the size of a continent.

  28. Parking_Pineapple730

Getting either a remake of Link To The Past (in the style of LA/EoW) or a remake of Ocarina of Time this year would be amazing. Feels like a pipe dream though. Here’s hoping. 🤞

  29. KaptainKardboard

That’s wild how time flies, it still feels like TotK just dropped like a year ago

  30. Thoraxekicksazz

I don’t need to know until the game is almost here. I am on team don’t tell me years in advance.

  31. Guess another drought record to add to TotK’s list,
Alongside it already holding the “longest drought for a *new* The Legend of Zelda game” for the period between it and BotW

  32. EnjoyTheMovie_You2

They have bought themselves the biggest grace period I have ever given someone, take your time boys
