Fakemon

Huh? A Porygon appeared! But it’s not like the ones you’ve seen before…

This is one of the regional forms I’m planning for my Pokemon fangame, which I’ve tentatively titled Backyard Experiment (trust me, it makes sense thematically). The region, which is currently unnamed, is based on my home state of Victoria, Australia. The game will boast features like eight Gyms, a regional dex mostly made of Fakemon, and a new type: the Dream type. Since it’s planned to be a full-sized game, and considering I’m a solo dev, it’s something that will definitely take me years to finish, but for now, I’m alright with baby steps.

The art exhibit Australian birds by Julian Opie, stationed right outside the National Gallery of Victoria and the Arts Centre (that white wireframe building in the picture) has always been something intriguing to me, and making it into a Pokemon is my way of honouring it. The scientific name (my replacement for categories) just means swan pyramid alpha (the Greek letter at the end denotes which stage it’s in.) I’m not too sure what the type would be for this, so if you’ve got any ideas, I’d love to hear them. I’ve considered Electric, Psychic, Ground, or just keeping it Normal, but I’m not sold on those ideas yet. If you’ve got any ideas or feedback, it’s very much appreciated!
