I thought it’d be cool to take a simple rat Pokémon concept and push it in a weird direction, so I made it a yo-yo rat.
The idea is that the first form, Nibrawl, is a small alley thief that fights dirty and distracts opponents, and when it evolves it literally turns that behavior into a weapon. Yo-Rascal swings Nibrawl around like a yo-yo to attack, which is why a lot of its moves come from Nibrawl’s movepool.
I wanted the evolution to feel connected in both design and battle style instead of just getting bigger, so it keeps its pre-evo involved in how it fights.
