Three Stage Evolution Pokemon that could be starters

What would be the best starting trio from this selection? Has to be one water, one fire, one grass.

  1. One of these is not like the others
    >!Azurill isn’t grass/water/fire!<

    Also >!Fletchling isn’t a grass/water/fire!<

I sure do love Charcadet middle stage with an eviolite

Most of these wouldn’t work. Litwick has a stone evolution, Magby has a trade evolution, Charcadet is an item evolution and not a three-stage. Poliwag is a split-evo and trade evolution and item evolution, Horsea is a trade evolution, Azurill is a friendship evolution and not water type, Lotad is a stone evolution and both water and grass, Seedot is a stone evolution, Oddish is split evolution and stone evolutions Budew is a friendship and stone evolution, and Bellsprout is a stone evolution.

Edit: Also Fletchling isn’t a fire type until it evolves.

It’s a neat idea in concept but many of them aren’t fire/water/grass in their first form and requires items or trade to evolve.

  4. RedViper_100

In what world is charcadet a three stage evolution? Also a lot of them evolve via stone or other method so… no.

  5. Fletchling and Rolycoly aren’t Fire-types. Azurill isn’t a Water type. Lotad overlaps Water and Grass,, Poliwag and Oddish have branched evolutions. Charcadet isn’t a three-stage evolution. Most of these require an evolution item and/or trade to evolve. Basically none of these are viable as starter lines.

  6. F34th3rs0ng

Oddish, Spheal, Litwick is an incredible starter trio. Perfect, no notes.

  7. Kksliderisreal

Hypothetically, are we also changing the stats and evolution methods to be more starter-like? I’d choose Litwick, Spheal, and Budew. Mostly because I would love to have Budew as a starter.

  8. gliscornumber1

Fletchling, rolycoly, and azurill couldn’t be starters because they aren’t fire or water type until they evolve. Also, charcadet isn’t a three stage evolution

  9. Finetales

It’s more fun if you don’t limit yourself to just Fire/Water/Grass. Shinx is the ultimate non-starter starter.

  10. They should really make regional variant starter pokemon. Like a regional variant of doduo is the grass starter for a region. That would be really cool.

  11. Alyxandar

I like the trio of Litwick -> Spheal -> Seedot. Their final forms have the Fire -> Water -> Grass loop going, but also have an almost reverse loop of Ghost/Ice/Dark, with the Dark/Grass Type then having a good typing into the Ghost/Fire, the Water/Ice having a good type into Dark/Grass, and Ghost/Fire being neutral into Water/Ice. It would also be cool having access to an Ice type early in the game, where usually they are extremely late game Pokemon.

  12. StJimmy_815

I’m so glad everyone agrees this list is dumb as fuck

  13. Fluffy_Godzilla

Litwick evolves at level 41. Fuck that noise.

  14. Joshawott27

None of these would really work, given the mix of evolution methods, level ranges, how some of them (Fletchling, Rolycoly and Azurill) don’t even start off as the base type.

If you could adjust the levels that they evolve into their middle stages, Seedot, Litwick, Poliwag could be fun. They all have a final stage stone evolution, and their type triangle would reverse on each other when fully evolved. The only issue is the level imbalance.

  15. ItachiTheRealHokage

Instead, how about different set of 3 types for starters? Introducing new ones, like using Psychic, Dark, and fighting

  16. Technically speaking Eevee is also a starter so that rules out the three stage evolution. Even Pikachu is a starter so that rules out level up evolution even though you can’t evolve Pikachu anyways

  17. Fishferat_u

Lets see how variable they are

LITERALLY ONLY HOPPIP DOESNT USE A STONE

Magby evolves through trade,Lantern through stone and Charcadette isnt even a 3 stage. Fletchingder doesnt start with the fire type so hes out too,so youre forced to use ROLYCOLY

And for water,ONE IS A SPLIT EVO,one uses trade, and the other Stone, and Azurril doesnt start with the water type so SPHEAL

Wich would leave Hoppip,Rolycoly and Spheal to be the only viable options, where due to Spheal having the ice type,Rolycoly can hit with rock moves,Hoppip’s stats are weak as hell and it starts with just splash, and Rolycoly beats the other 2 starters due to rock type

  18. Maleficent-Comfort14

I wouldn’t be opposed getting a new trio of starters that follow a different rock-paper-scissors. Flying beat fighting. Fighting beats rock. Rock beats Flying. Wouldn’t that work?

  19. Own-Air-1301

I like the idea of Seedot, Litwick and Marill, although it doesn’t fit a good archetype. The Fire>Grass>Water is nicely reversed by Fairy>Dark>Ghost

  20. Mankeet33

Magby being a final trade evolution excludes it from the list. Trade evolutions are stupid in general

  21. Doesn’t match type, evolves with a stone, evolves by trade, works, not a three stage, evolves with a stone or trade, evolves too late, evolves by trade, doesn’t match type, evolves by stone, evolves by stone, evolves by stone, evolves too quickly, evolves by stone

Only Rolycoly works even remotely, but by default it would be it Spheal & Hoppip just by nature of being the only ones that fit at all

  22. Hot_Hat_6526

I am surprised swinub is not featured here

  23. Aurora_Wizard

Even if we were to change evolution methods and stats, which no one else here is really thinking of, Charcadet’s still a 2 stage mon with a split evo

  24. comicrun96

I feel like to do the 3 stage evos for starters, you have to do it with other types that work well in a circle. On top of that, can’t be a trade/item evo for final and the starting type has to be one of the three.

  25. MikaelPorter

    Fletchling is not Fire type
    Azurill is not Water type
Charcadet doesn’t have a three stage evolution line, he just has a Two stage BRANCHED line
Litwick, Lotad, Seedot, Budew, Poliwag, Oddish and Bellsprout evolve with a stone only
Magby, Azurill and Budew evolve with Happiness
Magby, Poliwag and Horsea will require trade with an item to fully evolve

out of all these, only Carkol, Spheal and Hoppip could fit in the starter setup, you could argue that they don’t fit there too for being a dual type, but other pokemon were starters too and had a dual type anyways, Bulbasaur and Rowlett

  26. Most of these Pokemon are either trade/stone evolutions or get their “starter type” in the next evolution.

  27. WSandness

Ok yeah split evos aren’t 3 stage lol. But also give my boi Breloom a 3rd evo. He’s my favorite.
