I have played all gen of pokémon except the 4th one before, as I never ownes it.
So decided to give BDSP a try despite hearing a lot of complaints
It slaps? Like, its very good. I dont even mean the region or story, it honestly doesnt have much beyond the usual we see. Its a very bland classic region.
I mean the actual game
I love the chibi graphics and retro vibes while still being 3d, honestly it makes the world feel more alive than the other 2d pokemon games I played, while still having that nostalgic vibe, it ust looks very good. A lot of quality of life, u dont need to have HM on your mons, you can use boxes anywhere, dialogue mid match is pretry cool. Its nice to have trainer customisation and following pokémon is great. Ost is great, moves look good.
Only wish they implemented the newer systems of having pokémon acctualy be seen in overworld instead of poping up from the grass. Also the pokémon availability in this gen is ass, you see the same bidoofs and bugs and for half of the game until you get to the ice region.
I dont know how does it compare with the original, but honestly as someone who has never played gen 4 before I feel it did its job. Itz not as good as ORAS or HGSS but It just holds up to the old style of the games very well. Enjoyed it more than black and white 2 for example
