This going to sell like *crack*, man.

  2. BakedRufflesChips

20 dollars for a game released 20 years ago is crazy

Edit: Guys, a digital release of $20 vs a physical game unofficially being sold online by scalpers is not the ‘gotcha’ that you think it is.

  3. razorbeamz

Selling the languages individually is kinda gross.

  4. Thepower200

Nintendo should release all their older games like this at a cheaper price that is and I would buy them.

  5. adamkopacz

Ok that’s straight up robbery. You can split NSO Expansion for half of that.

  6. BebeFanMasterJ

I’m shocked these aren’t just being thrown on the GBA app.

  7. pocket_arsenal

No extra features it looks like. Like at the bare minimum this should have fast forward for level grinding, screen filter options, and if they won’t make it widescreen, an optional border.

  8. apixelate

I’m not super surprised that they’re putting it on eShop rather than the NSO. There’s the money argument, but I don’t think that app has anything built in to let them do Pokèmon Home with it, and that’s gonna be a big selling point for Pokèmaniacs.

What I _am_ surprised about is that there’s not some sort of 30th Anniversary Bundle with FRLG/RSE, even RBY/GSC.

  9. AdamSMessinger

That’s fucked up. They should have bundled them for that price.

pokemon fans spent the last 15 years playing these on their phone, on their psp, on their pc, on their modded ds/3ds…i wonder how many are gonna pay $20 for a single edition.

  11. Alpacaman22

When people were saying that they didn’t want NSO, and instead wanted Virtual Console purchases back, I guess they forgot how Nintendo was going to price them.

  12. Soft-Percentage8888

Twitter is about to become (more) unbearable “I can just emulate these for free on my phone lmao.”

I am happy with this news though. I really hope the event mythicals are obtainable.

  13. LilleLasson

Personally I had hoped for something in the range of $5 USD. But I’m happy we finally have it.

  14. Bulky-Complaint6994

I hope it’s not just them and we can get Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald later down the line for example.

  15. soliddd7

Crazy its not coming to NSO, has to be the pokemon company telling Nintendo no, even though the spin offs are in nso.

  16. GamePrime99

Anyone thinking they would release a Pokemon game with Home compatibility on NSO with rewinds and Save States is out of their minds. The GB games didn’t have save states on 3DS when they came out, so that’s most likely the reason why. That, and money of course.

  17. sleepymeowth052

genuinely did not believe this was happening. This is awesome.

  18. Dangerous-Yellow1380

Please let this have a physical version please like Mario galaxy bundle please.

  19. razorbeamz

It’s time for everyone who said they’d buy these games individually to prove it.

  20. IamAlex_8

Will it come with the poke walker thooooo

  21. Zane-chan19

I’m surprised they announced it now and not during the actual event. Shadow dropped FRLG would’ve been crazy but yeah I guess knowing it’s coming is cool too.

  22. Mindofthequill

What a year. First Diablo 2 gets new content after all these years and now this. The people yearn for their retro games.

  23. 64-bit_Ryan

I feel weird about this. It’s very strange to suddenly get two GameBoy advanced games for 20 bucks by themselves.

  24. perark05

Will be the most stable release in years by gamefreak! But will expect jank

  25. toadfan64

Lmfao $20 for a digital copy? No thanks. If you’re gonna charge that, make a physical version for the Switch.

I still got my GBA copy in great condition

  26. Basculeigion1235

I woke up today and saw the Nintendo today app notification saying that we were getting these games and I just prayed that we would be able to transfer Pokemon to home

  27. leutschi

The GBA option on the Switch lets you use save states and roll back what you do, right? So I would assume this is to not making shiny hunting of legendaries too easy, or similar.

  28. caramello-koala

Hope heart gold and soul silver are coming next!

  29. Okay, but does it have the ability to get access to the AuroraTicket and MysticTicket? It’d be nice.

  30. That’s great, can’t wait. I’ll be getting Leaf Green for sure.

  31. My dream would be a way to toggle between the GBA and original Red and Blue GB graphics and music on the fly. Fire Red’s updates with the original reds sprites would actually be incredible.

Still, at this price point I’m surprised they didn’t do “Leaf Green + OG Blue” and “Fire Red + OG Red.” Seems like that’d be so easy to toss in and basically costs nothing.

  32. bwoah07_gp2

I don’t follow Pokémon; is this a shadow drop announcement?

  33. RedDragon77300

If these have no quality-of-life improvements added or other content, anyone who pays 20 is a clown. 10 each would be more fair.

  34. headgobonk269

Cool but I can play this on my phone for free

  35. Dreyfus2006

They are very good games and worth playing. Pretty much the definitive Gen. 1, although I prefer RBY.

Worth mentioning though that Nintendo previously set the price of GBA games on the eShop at $8 back in 2013-2014, so these are of course completely overpriced. I own the original GBA copy so I will not be getting them. But, if you’re willing to bite the bullet, you’ll be in for one of the best Pokemon games. Certainly a million times better than the other Pokemon games on the Switch.

After beating it, you should check out all the ROMhacks for it. FRLG is a treasure trove of quality fan games!

  36. DrakonAir8

This is cool but also really annoying because it looks exactly like the same game. It’s really hard to swallow when things like the Megaman battle network legacy collection exist, Shovel Knight, Sonic Mania, or Silksong exist for a similar price.

Emulation, Resources, and Game development has evolved to such a state that it would be easy for any paid junior developer to code in some new content and QoL updates in a week. Just something to know that they are not just reheating old nachos.
