Pokemon

Pokémon doesn’t need realism — it needs art and texture.

After the trailer for the 10th generation that came out today, I saw a lot of people commenting that many of the graphical aspects seem to be aiming for realism. For the first time, it feels like Game Freak might be heading in that direction. But that’s the last thing Pokémon needs — realistic graphics.

Genshin Impact (image), which was inspired by Breath of the Wild, is a great source of inspiration for Pokémon. A non-realistic, stylized art direction, yet vibrant and rich in texture. Strong environmental design, impressive visual effects, and an impeccable soundtrack.

Pokémon was once a master at composing musical masterpieces, but in recent years it has been falling short.

I would rather see Pokémon follow a more artistic path, with polished, stylized graphics, instead of moving toward realism.
