Pokemon Trading Card Game

These prices are a prank right?

What person in the right mind would pay $1200 for a card that just came out?

    What’s the prank?

This has happened at every past few releases

I think you fail to realize there are people with boatloads of money and 1.2k is chum change and just want the card

Or, someone who wants to buy a clean copy and send it off to PSA in hopes of getting a 10 to then resell and double their money

Does it really surprise you with the state the market is in right now

What person in their right mind would pay $600 for a card that just came out?  Or $300?  Or even $100?

The “market” for the tcg is completely broken thanks to people turning it into a speculative commodity.  Add on top the scam that is grading and now you have an insufferable userbase all vying for a piece of the profit.

  4. Everyone in this sub needs to take a basic economics class

Impatient people with money ( i sure hope they have the money lmao ) as most know prices drop as time goes on as more get ripped.

We’re still very close to the release, the card’s price will drop like a rock soon

The average collector has lost. Cards are an asset class now. It’ll probably never be about fun and collecting ever again, just about value. So shit.

Ah, the purveyors of fine luxury cardboard rectangles.

Everything Pokemon cards is inflated in price. Just throw a number and hope it sticks!

You know, very few of you would be happy if we went back to sets where basic vmax cards were the top chases (or 1-2 FA a set) and you were lucky to get between 4-8 non-holo hits a box, with most being basic v cards, gx cards, etc.

Everyone wants everything to be cheap again, but you’re not getting that unless Pokémon goes back to providing almost 0 cool cards in a set and booster boxes that give you almost nothing.

Dude chill they’re buying the next 1.2 million card!!!

Do people really expect the chase cards of a set to max out at $100 like it’s still the 90s?

Even if packs were readily available (which they won’t be any time soon), I would still expect the chase cards to cost more than a booster box.

Y’all should know not to panic buy as prices for singles always go down after time…

  14. EhhhhhhWhatever

This happens every time people. And then everyone makes this post. And we all say it’s crazy. This routine gets old.

  15. ThinSet3

I cannot wait for Pokémon to tank the market with their new factory and control over their distribution…

Us simple folk don’t even try. We liked the art, opening packs was just fun. Never cared about money.

    Lame

  17. I’m glad I find 90%+ of mega evolutions to look like dogshit

TCG’s are 50% money laundering and scalping, 40% collecting, 10% playing.

Judging the market in a hype cycle is a fools errand. Other than that, the pull rates on AH are insane to pull a specific SIR and product has mostly been scare.

Hype. Hype and a dope card that’s hard to pull.

  20. The hobby is cooked for anyone trying to collect genuinely. I miss the days of my mom taking me to buy a pack at KB toys. I had no idea how lucky I was being in the genesis of Pokémon.

  21. ValiantS4mwise512

Man the fact that these cards brand new get even remotely close to these prices is absurd. This is why I’ve decided to be done all together with the cards. I collected for the love of Pokemon. Now people collect for the love of money.

  22. thi3fstheme

Its scalpers trying to recuperarte what they spend. Just wait till the prices tank when no one in there right mind or even a real collector is going to pay those prices

  23. I mean the first one is a bid. So its not a prank 🤣🤣
