While rewatching the trailer I noticed these two again — Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu.
At first they just look like the “old couple across the bar” of the trailer… quietly watching everything unfold.
But something about them made me pause a bit.
Their outfits follow the same wind / waves theme we see on the player characters and some of the exploration gear like the boards.
That made me wonder if they might actually hint at something about how exploration works in the game.
Maybe the gear differences point toward two exploration styles:
wind → more vertical movement / climbing
waves → more surfing and traveling between islands
Another small detail: their color almost looks like shiny Pikachu… or like a Pikachu that spent a little too long in the sun.
Right before this scene the trailer also flashes those sketch-style drawings of mechanics from previous Pokémon games, which almost feels like they’re acknowledging old systems before introducing new ones.
The way these two are framed almost makes them look like spectators watching the world being revealed, which might explain why so many people compare them to the old couple across the bar.
Could just be fun mascot design of course… but once I noticed it the pieces started lining up.
What do you think — just fun design, or could they actually be hinting at how exploration works?
