Turns out some of them are quite valuable now! These are the four most expensive ones as far as I can tell. Unfortunately the Mew and Shaymin have small creases but they're still probably just moderately played since they're small and by the edges. The Ninetales and Arcanine are somewhere between near mint and lightly played.
I kept my cards in a binder and traded them at school (before they got banned lol). I didn't open many packs, I only really remember opening a tin or two. My younger brother and I got hand me down cards from our older cousins which is how we got the Ninetales. My brother got most of them because again, I only wanted the cute ones.
I'm considering getting the Mew graded because it seems like it's worth quite a bit but I've never had anything graded and I'm not sure if it's worth it to do that. I don't want to sell it or anything, I just want to protect it's value. If you have any advice for me, I'd appreciate it!
I feel very lucky to have kept mine and that they've been protected despite being in a crappy binder without sleeves for over a decade. My boyfriend's parents got rid of his multi thousand dollar collection not knowing their worth, and I know he's not the only one with a story like that. If you collected cards as a kid, what happened to them and do you still have them today?
