Hey everyone. I’ve been playing Pokemon for years and wanted to share one of if not my favorite experiences playing the games. Starting off, when HOME came out and they showed that the living dex reward was the special Magearna that was in the data from Gen 7, I knew I needed it. At the time I was breeding chespins in Ultra Moon so I could get a shiny. I hat A LOT of chespins and I wand having any luck at that point. But then I had an idea.
I realized that there was no natural way of getting a Chespin outside of X and Y at the time, so I realized that he was kind of a rare pokemon at that point. I figured if I took these Chespin to HOME and posted them on the GTS I could probably get a good chunk of the missing pokemon in my dex. I had no idea how well this was about to turn out.
I was getting an insane amount of pokemon. Even ones that were pretty hard to get at the time. Within only a week or two I had completed the gen 1 and 2 dex, and the momentum wasn’t stopping. At that point I was making a joke to my friends that I was running the HOME economy with Chespins. After trading so many off by then, I decided to jokingly name it the Adopt a Chespin Foundation.
This was prime pandemic, so for about two months all I would do was go to work, and when I got home I would breed chespins in Ultra Moon, send batches of them into pokebank, and then up to HOME. Finally, after two months, I had completed the living dex and got my Magearna.
This probably wouldn’t have worked either if I hadn’t been playing in 2016 oddly enough, as Pokemon 20 was going on at the time. And I made my mom drive me to GameStop every month to pick up a new code for a mythical that we’re otherwise unobtainable. It was such a weird combination of factors that led to it, but it’s probably one of my favorite experiences playing Pokemon through the years.
Obviously now this would never work as ZA made the Chespin economy tank in value, but at this point in time, it felt so cool that I was able to do this. And the funny part is, I didn’t even get the shiny after all of that, but I got a really cool experience out of it. I hope people get to have as unique and fun of a time in this series as I have.
