Tbh, I was getting a bit tired of the massive 300+ card modern sets with so much filler. So I decided to just play the game my own way and assemble my own custom set.
My project is called "Johto Heritage". The idea is a smaller, premium-feeling binder focused on the soul of Johto. It's mostly Gen 2 Pokémon, but I added some from other gens that perfectly match the traditional Japanese / nature aesthetic (think temples, myths, old forests).
I ended up using a lot of old HGSS era cards because the artwork just perfect for that traditional vibe. But I really don't want the entire binder to just be a HGSS clone. I want to blend in other cards that share that same serene, traditional look (instead of the crazy modern arts).
I'd love to discuss with you all:
- Have you ever built a fully custom themed set? What was your theme? I'm rly curious about this.
- Card suggestions: Do you know any great non-HGSS cards (modern or older) with a really strong ancient/traditional Japanese style that I could add to my list?

Just a heads up: I purposely skipped e-Series and older cards because I wanted to keep all the borders uniformly silver/grey so the binder looks clean and consistent.
