In a VERY FOMO led market, I feel it’s important to reminds everyone to remember these 5 rules of buying singles second hand.
-
You will see lots of posts, especially on eBay claiming that the single you want is guaranteed to be “A PSA 10 contender” or have “Perfect centering”. These posts will always be wayy over market and, let me spoil you, they will never grade a 10 or have perfect centering. Otherwise they’d be graded.
-
Don’t let yourself FOMO yourself into buying singles when a set drops. Unless it’s a chase you can’t live without, it’s never worth it. Just wait a week.
-
If they don’t have at least one picture with a sleeve on, just pass.
-
Many posts will reuse images of other existing posts to hide the quality of the card you’re getting. It’s important to inspect other posts for the same cover as they’ll usually be hiding nicks or bad centering.
-
And most importantly. You will come along a very special post if you’re extremely patient. It’ll have a cover photo like no other, with lighting from an iPhone’s flash that’s clearly shot at 2am. The seller will have 8 reviews which all say “Sent fast and reliably.” And they will have a description that says “Pulled just now, looks good 👍”. This. THIS is the single you’ve been waiting for. This single seller will ship the cleanest, most pristine, and most importantly well packaged single you’ve ever seen. It’ll be listed fairly, and some of the photos will even be blurry because they really didn’t care enough for the card to give it a second thought. You’ll receive a box that surely cost more to send than you paid, and it’ll be packed so well it’d make a 5 figure card cry. All this to say, after years of bad singles experiences. I’m finally satisfied.
Larp larp larp.
