The idea started when I learned that grasshoppers bask in the sun to stay active through the day. It's a rainbow grasshopper because the video where I learned it from specifically featured a rainbow grasshopper.
Markings on Poikifero is inspired by Tāi moko, the traditional, sacred tattoo art of New Zealand where fire poi originated.
*Poekilocerus pictus is just another brightly colored grasshopper.
While making this caption, I just learned that there's a rare pink grasshopper recently found in New Zealand. I wish I had added that into the design.
