    According to the news:

    > Beginning in May 2026, and starting with preorders for Yoshi™ and the Mysterious Book, new Nintendo published digital titles exclusive to Nintendo Switch™ 2 will have an MSRP that is different from physical versions.
    >
    > Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.
    >
    > As always, retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.

Yep, this is going to be the new normal. You can’t expect anyone to eat fees to produce the case, artwork, cartridge and ship it across the globe with tariffs.

    Buckle up.

  3. Violet_Paradox

Different as in physical remains the same and digital is lower? Or as in digital remains the same and physical gets a price hike?

  4. don’t get your hopes digital is going down, it means physical is going up.

  5. Tenoch_12

I am digital by default and have been since the Wii U days so this is fine

  6. PhatYeeter

Yoshi digital is $60 right now for pre order. Does that mean all Nintendo switch 2 exclusives will be $60 digital at launch?

  7. Very interested to see how retailers react to this. From my understanding there are contractual obligations for publishers to keep physical and digital copies the same price.

Have you guys seen the rise in the cost of memory?

I’m pretty sure cartridges are starting to cost more to manufacture.

  9. ryzenguy111

Been like this in Europe since Switch 2

  10. MarcsterS

So Yoshi is $60 but only on eShop, $70 physical.

Okay…well, I’m honestly surprised Nintendo of all companies were the first to do this.

  11. Fit_Beautiful2638

Getting those costco Nintendo gift cards for 80 cents on the dollar really makes digital pricing a great discount too.

If only I could figure out how to tell Nintendo to stop charging me state sales tax.

  12. BMSeraphim

    Different as in cheaper, right?

    … Right?

  13. Upstairs-Baseball898

The haters thought all Nintendo games were gonna be $80 and now they’re back down to $60 lmao

  14. Pabswikk

Unless I’m misunderstanding something this amounts to a discount on Digital judging by the Yoshi pricing? If so, seems like an incentive to get people off physical when costs are going up. Probably not great long term for the health of physical media, but good at a time when people are more cash strapped than they’ve been in a long time.

Also, it feels like people on this thread are already making assumptions that this is a price increase when it isn’t??

  15. PwillyAlldilly

if that means digital goes back to 60 permanently im so here for it

  16. GIOgwGIO

I made a similar comment in a thread about the physical release of Mouse PI in that I’ll gladly pay an extra tenner for a physical so long as it’s complete on cart. Nintendo please do a true physical for Pokopia.

  17. Phoenixundrfire

I’m certainly not in the know, but I do have a wallet and I’ve held off on buying quite a few games just because the 70$ tag is too much. Even on other platforms when I see 70$ 50% off -> 35$ it doesn’t feel quite like a deal in my head.

There is a sweet spot in microeconomics where cost and sales volume peak out for maximum profit, I wonder if Nintendo is seeing that 70$ stifles sales for most games. Since physical copies have resale value/ stocking and manufacturing costs so they pass that on here.

It would get me buying more games in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not the only one.

Finally! Digital games should’ve been made cheaper a long time ago. It made no sense having physical and digital being the same price. I just hope other publishers follow suit.

  19. bradhotdog

I mean, I get it, it makes sense. physical you need to account for the price of materials and shipping and all that stuff. But at the same time, that SHOULD mean the digital will drop in price. I’m pretty sure that won’t happen.

Best case scenario, all physical ends up going to the $70 price we’ve been experiencing already, and digital stays at $60. Worst case, digital $70 and physical $80.

I don’t like that they didn’t say the pricing and are just bracing us for the impact.

  20. Responsible-Care-388

It’s probably going to be a flat $10 “physical cost” for all of their games.

Cheaper game like Wario Ware or whatever sells for $50 normally? Now it is $60 for the cart.

For the biggest games like a 3D Mario or Zelda, I am curious if it will be $60 digital and $70 physical, or if they will stick with $70 digital and push the physical version up to $80 to “match” what they did with Mario Kart.

  21. vanwal_j

Consoles producers have (had ?) a deal with physical retailers and especially brick and mortar video game stores: okay to sell your games and consoles at low margins but you guarantee that digital and physical games have the same MSRP so there are reasons for people to still come and bought us stuff.

Under the lines this probably means that video game store represents such a low vector of distribution that Nintendo take the bet they can live without it

  22. DrPorkchopES

I thought they were already doing this? MK world launched at $80 digital, $90 physical

  23. RedNinja-03

I’m surprised the MSRP board agreed to this the retail branch has been hell bent on making sure the base digital prices are the same a physical

  24. PSgamer28

Are they real physical games though or just keycards

  25. Looking at the eshop it seems like digital games are gonna be $10 cheaper.

They’re probably trying to incentivize people to buy digital so they can justify the phasing out of physical games entirely.

  26. Piggstein

Digital’s going to be cheaper, right?

    *Anakin face*

  27. sonic10158

I thought it said ESRB and not MSRP for a second and I was confused

  28. OskeyBug

I’m still buying physical. I do think digital should be cheaper though.

  29. jj889fan

This is the nail in the coffin for me getting physical games. Once/if digital became cheaper, that’s what I’m doing.

  30. Low_Possibility_8843

Is this going to make any real difference? The problem with digital is that is always more expensive than going on amazon and getting it £10 cheaper than what nintendo thinks the price should be and it’s the same with sony but with far bigger discounts on the physical games. Retailers will still undercut.

And I obviously don’t have any stats to back this theory up but personally seeing say a £60 price tag on a digital game puts me off a lot more than seeing one on a physical game, I’m sure there’s other people who think like that.

  31. zero_the_clown

I’m all digital anyway, as I don’t have the space to collect physical where I live. So this is an absolute win for me and others in a similar position.
