There's been a lot of discussion on this topic and I put some noodling into it myself. I think the simplest way to solve the majority of complaints is to have the ability to view what Pokemon the other person has tagged for remote trade become available at Great Friends instead of Forever Friends. In that case you have wasted at most one week and can tell if the other person has interest in trading (assuming you can't connect on campfire) allowing you to place your efforts elsewhere if that is your prerogative. Getting surprised at the end doesn't benefit either party, even if you don't like trading it wouldn't be a negative.

Good idea!
Even unlocking at best friends level would allow the person to determine which to prioritise for the next 90 days of interaction

Im at 35 FF and 21 are still available. Ive tried to do it daily but timezones make it slower.
Of those 21 available like 5 of them havent tagged anything or just random pokemon that make no sense, so by the time I complete the other 16 I will have like 10-15 new FF so I dont even mind if they havent updated. Ill keep farming the 150,000 exp and still have the option for my daily remote for a long time.
Can I add a request: A small logo of the Campfire app to the right of “Unlock at Forever Friends” if the person has been active on the app in the last 6 months
Great friends is too early.
I’d say best friends or like halfway to forever so it allows enough time to coordinate, but isn’t talking about an event so far in the future the list might get snatched up entirely until then. It would also let you decide if you really want to pursue and prioritize them (so have them for weekly challenges etc) or if you’d rather do it with others.
Also add a common present sticker emote “FIX UR REMOTE TRADES”, as we cannot communicate.
The whole reason they added forever friends is because of remote trades. They need as much of that interaction time as possible, apparently
It would make it helpful for coordination – if I see you have something I want, I can message you and we can organize what we’ll trade 90 days down the late. It’s way more time to coordinate and doesn’t prevent any other trades.
But also I really want this just to see other people’s pokemon. I’ve been really enjoying getting sneak peeks into everyone’s collections. You see what events they attended, who goes to a whole bunch of events, some of the truly epic pulls they’ve gotten. It’s fun.
Sorry, I think this is a terrible idea. If trade mons were visible after one week that would mean weeks before forever friends. Anything might change in the following weeks.
If you choose to abandon gifting as soon as you get to great friends you will never know what would have happened, maybe they were thinking about which of their rare mons to offer when they got a bit further long. If you see someone has mons you want, so you carry on, weeks later they have traded those away and you have “wasted” three months.
I feel like the design decision behind locking a player’s remote trade tag visibility isn’t for the sake of the more advanced and engaged players, but rather the newer and less experienced. Some players are literal children who may only engage with half of the systems in this game. If kids started to feel like their friends all disappeared when they reached the second bubble it would feel pretty bad.
I think the real problem is tagging. If you aren’t a strong reader (again, children) or if you’re just not keen on tutorial text, you’ll never discover or use it.
I think there should be a fallback for folks who don’t have anything tagged. Maybe the default behavior is “all collected pokemon appear in trade”, or “all pokemon with greater than one collected appear” unless the user explicitly tags.
At the very least, getting the error that your friend doesn’t have anything tagged should trigger the tutorial for them again (on a reasonable cool down to prevent spam).
the thing is it might not be great at the moment, but given that the feature is out for a while also means that everybody actively playing the game already has or shortly will have access to it anyway. I dont see this as an issue, what makes it much less intresting is that ppl dont use campfire or are unable to be found with their ingame names 🙁
Or you can do what most smart proactive people do and delete people you don’t know from your friend list once you hit best friends. After playing this game since launch it was not worth the time tracking down random people hoping they’re interested in completing lucky trades and it’s the same thing with remote trading.
Remote trading should be the default form of trading.
Tooo early. Best friends is good enough. Literally 90 days
Couldn’t agree more. Heck, even unlocking it at Ultra or Best Friends would be better than how it currently is. Im sure like many others, I had dozens of lucky friends that I started working toward Forever Friends with. Had I known then that they had nothing, I likely wouldn’t have tried hard with them.
Why even lock it to begin with? Just simply let people see what other people have in remote trade so you can have an idea of what the market demand is.
I would rather trade with people who have multiple options tagged and not get in to time wasting discussion about what to trade. Having to try to connect on campfire etc
If you don’t like what they select it is simple just cancel the trade and start it again. They soon get the message or contact them at that point.
I tried connecting for a while and had different trades organised for each night for over a week/ it was all too hard and confusing to keep up with. time zone differences meant some trades didn’t fall neatly into my day so they would spill over to a second- causing chain reactions further down what I had planned.
It was time wasting- now I simply find someone free and start a trade. Much simpler. Good shiny Regionals are now harder to find as the early bird trades got all of those. So just trade something and move on. Any trade is better than no trade you may get lucky and get a perfect.
Shiny regionals will reappear in the future as people catch more. All is not lost.
I have 3 forever friends who have not marked any pokemons for trading. And they keep sending me gifts daily. Not everyone is looking for rare shinies
Even having it unlock at best friends would be fine. It feels bad prioritizing getting to forever friends with someone only to find they have nothing to trade.
Not a good idea, unless you want to eliminate trading possibilities with people who wait until bring close to FF with someone before tagging.
