I learned SVD the other day and decided to play around with the Pokemon type chart. To my surprise, the first component produced a seemingly valid viability ranking each for offensive types and defensive type combinations.
Why is this the case? And how valid the ranking actually is?

There’s not really much of a why to it. The type system is imperfect and unbalanced, and what you’re picking up is the line where the imbalance is highest.
