Howdy everyone! With the 30th anniversary in motion I thought it would be nice to do some reminiscing! I was curious to what yalls oldest Pokémon in your possession was. It can be from any game as long as you still access to them! For me the oldest one I have is my Sceptile from Pokémon Sapphire WAAAAAAYYYY back in 2003 when I was 4 years old. I believe I named myself Joe all caps because I was a ginormous Blues Clues fan. It’s funny to think this Sceptile is older than a lot of my family members I even think he’s a month older than my little sister. Sceptile and I have been to every region including Orre! I actually wish Pokémon would introduce a special ribbon for Pokémon that set foot in every region that particular species is able to go to. Anyways enough of my rambling I’d love for you guys to share your journey and team members!

My first games were Diamond and platinum but I’m not sure about those mons. It’s been forever since I played even though I think I still have the games. Though there is one I still have that means a lot to me. When I was getting into Pokemon as a kid, black and white had just come out (and I had to wait a whole week to get them. Longest week of my life lol.) My cousin, Stuart, was also into Pokemon and he taught me a lot like shinies and version exclusives. I got black but I wanted Reuniclus when he showed me what it was. It was so cute but I couldn’t get it since it was White exclusive. He used Action Replay to hack spawn a level 100 shiny Reuniclus I named Sparkie and we traded so I couldn’t have it. I still have it to this day on my Omega Ruby game. I would’ve transferred it over to my switch but while I do have Pokemon Bank, I forgot to get Pokemon Transfer so I can’t unless I mod my 3DS which I don’t know how to do. But, I do still have him. Not just him but my whole team I used to beat White 2.
I have a handful of Pokémon from 2003 that I’ve moved up through each possible game, starting with Sapphire. In hindsight, I wish I were better about it and transferred more forward, but it is what it is.
But I’ve got Pokémon from Blue and Gold still stuck on the cartridge, so I guess they take the crown.
Still crazy to think that some of my best have been with me for more than 20 years.
I’ve probably got a few Hoen Mons but the only one I know for sure is that old that I still have is a level 70 something Machop from that little period where Machop was my favourite pokemon.
It feels really cool to have a pokemon that’s been traded through every single game possible.
I’ve also got a few legendaries left over from Sapphire. Regis and a Kyogre. I’m kind of a pack-rat with old legendary pokemon, so I’ve got a ton of certain ones, especially Cobalion, Virizion and Terrakion which seem to appear in every game.
I have my Flygon from my OG sapphire back when I first got it 🙂
He doesn’t have a nickname because I didn’t do that back then, but I still love him.
I still have my gen 3 Blaziken
I still have my original save file on my copy of pokemon blue from October 1998, does that count?
I wish I had done this. Idk if it was possible to trade from Gen 2 to Gen 3 and onward but I would kill to have my OG Feraligator (named Toad) or my Mudkip (Havoc). They were my OGs
Mine is a shiny Dusknoir I caught as a duskull in gen 3. Literally a month after your Sceptile
Literally it is a Piplup
Mine is also my Sceptile from Sapphire. I have a bunch of other Pokémon from the same save file. But the starter is obviously the oldest. I wish I still had my gen 1 & 2 mons, but my Silver & Crystal game batteries died before I could figure out how to transfer up to gen 3.
My Feraligator from my original copy of Pokémon Gold
I’ve got Wondertraded a Mewtwo in Home and its description said its from the Johto Region from 2011, so its from HGSS
Is it still possible to get pokemons out of fire red and leafgreen? Or emerald and sapphire?
sceptile is my fav starter hoenn
I have my whole team from my first Platinum play through in 2009, the big one is the Haunter Mindy trades you, he’s a Gengar in SwSh now.
Idk I play every Main entry but I always try to make my team up of Pokemon from that generation and then just leave them on that game when i finish
I have my Pokémon blue starter from the 90s
According to Home, these are my oldest. But I’ve been playing since gen1 and have transferred all of my teams as much as I was able to. I have 3 from Hoenn that have been in every game.

Somewhere I still have my original copy of SoulSilver, which was my first pokemon game, that I got for Christmas in 2010, and all of my original pokemon are on there, so I suppose those are my oldest! I’d love to retrieve my Meganium, my very first pokemon, from there and pull it through to the newer games but alas, don’t think that’s really doable anymore. 😔 I think I might have some older mons that I got from a secondhand copy of Platinum as well, but I didn’t catch those myself, just transferred them to SoulSilver before resetting Platinum so that I could play it myself.
My Blaziken from my OG Ruby run in 03…my OTs name is Seth…my name is not Seth
My oldest mon is a gts shiny Eelektross my cousin gave me in the x and y days that came from black and white in 2010
My oldest Mon I personally have is my original Chesnaught from 2014
I have my original playthrough of Red with all my Pokemon from 1998. I have a legally obtained Mew on there as well.
A 2011 event shiny raikou followed closely by the other 2 dogs.
Never bothered to transfer my mons and even resetted on some cartridges. Also i didn’t have 2 GBA systems or cables or friends which played a role. That is until DPP/HGSS where they released the shiny dogs in 2011 for the zoroark event and i did have 2 different DS systems so I could collect stuff on 1 cartridge. This then allowed me to transfer over mons to later gens and eventually Home.
I never transferred any pokemon from my 3ds to my switch because I was too young to pay for pokemon bank and I didn’t want to ask my parents for it, and then the 3ds eshop closed down before I could ever install it.
Anyway my oldest pokemon is my Sceptile from Omega Ruby, but the oldest pokemon I have access to on modern hardware is the Cinderace from my original Sword playthrough in 2019
An event Mew from Johto ❤️

I think I have you beat. Although I know I had this Charizard as my first Pokemon when FireRed was new, so I think the date was added in gen 5 (2011), because technically this would be like 2004.
I have a bunch from 2007 Pearl, including my story team (Empoleon, Luxray, Mismagius, Rapidash and Steelix) and some randos in my living dex.
I actually have every story team from all the games I’ve played on Home, from 2007 to 2025 (I think it’s 22 teams in total). It’s one of my favorite things about the series.
Its my Torterra from my original Platinum run. All the way back to 2009. Unfortunately its still on my Soul Silver game with no way to transfer it to home.
I still have the Legendary Beasts from my Colosseum game.
I think that’s more impressive than my Ruby and FireRed games, but I’m proud of those too.
I have my original infernape from diamond in home from 2007 Christmas day I named it MIG after the fighter jets lol. I was 7 so that checks out.
If it were easier, I’d have my OG team from Blue.
I lost my Alpha Sapphire cart with my Empoleon (nicknamed Slash because he learned Slash when evolving into a Prinplup and I was 8 and thought it was a cool name) from Pokemon Diamond that I got 4/22/2007 so it WOULD be him, but rip king 🙏 He lives on in Battle Revolution though
My oldest Pokemon now is probably my Meganium (nicknamed Chikki) from Heartgold, probably from launch day but idk off the top of my head. I was in 5th grade in the 2009-2010 school year and I remember my HP (High Potential – those classes where they grab the smart kids and separate them from everyone else) notebook being COVERED in drawings of Lyra, Chikorita, and Silver lol. But like, it was the type of awful anime style drawing a 10-11 year old obsessed with Pokemon, Inuyasha, and Mew Mew Power(/Tokyo Mew Mew) does.
Anyway I’m saving my Mega Meganiumite or whatever it’s called for Chikki!!!! He deserves Big Flower
Cannons, my beautiful first Blastoise from 1998.
i have an emerald file from probably 2005
I’ve had a lot of save files wipe on me over the years including the internal battery on my Gold file died and I lost my completed pokedex and all the pokemon on it. Including all the pokemon from my very first pokemon game Blue. So I actually don’t have any of the pokemon from my original runs
Or at least that’s what I thought for years. About 8 years ago I found my old Stadium 2 cartridge and discovered a Lv100 Fearow called Beaky had been left in the PC. That Fearow originated from my very first Blue save and I fully remember levelling up to 100 using the Rare Candy Glitch.
It’s the only surviving pokemon from my original pokemon Blue run so is over 26 years old from about late 1999/early 2000
I have some with really early dates (I believe 2011 is the oldest something can show legitimately as the dates got reset when the poke transporter became a thing.)
Pro tip for people who want an old pokemon: go on home and search the GTS for a Latios at like level 40 specifically, or a Groudon at level 45. Odds are you’ll be able to find an UT one from gen 3, then you can check the date to see when it was migrated.
I’ve had the same Blaziken since the original gen 3 was still new.
Would have been my Pichu from Ultra Sun as I got her in 2017, but the save got corrupted so now it’s just some gen 8 mon from 2020.
I got my orginal Blaziken from Sapphire in Home.

If my Pokemon Stadium battery is still working. I’ld have a Mew that I GameSharked as a starter from like 1999.
