January 19th is Empoleon’s Community Day in Pokemon GO. During this event trainers will be able to evolve Piplups to get Hydro Cannon on Empoleon. Given that Swampert became a must-have overnight with Hydro Cannon, the question becomes just how good is Hydro Cannon Empoleon? This video will be looking at Empleon’s performance in the raid, gym, and trainer battle metas.
Overall, Empoleon isn’t that hot for raids. It isn’t terrible but you’re better off sticking with better options. For gym defense, Empoleon is already the greatest counter to Metagross and Hydro Cannon only makes Empoleon that much better! For PvP, across all three leagues, Empoleon just isn’t it. However, in Silph Cups, Empoleon can be a monster! In fact, the current Silph format, the Fusion Cup, is completely dominated by our Emperor.
