If we look at this wiki article there is only 14 studios. Which isn’t a big deal as when I look at Sony it has 16. The biggest difference is I am confident every one of Sony’s studios could dish out a botw budget or bigger game(budget wise at least not necessarily better).
Because of the Wii era and mobile lines we are still feeling it’s effects today with most of these 14 being mobile but in HD or B level budget developers. In this list the only ones I think can do triple A quality are. Nintendo software, monolith and retro studios.
This is hurt even more by the number of IPS Nintendo has. Which means a lot of IPS they have of them are subject to what we call second party. Which can change at a drop of a hat and ruin a franchises run when Nintendo has no idea how to recover from a closure or buyout. Such as rare. Imagine. Even one of their biggest ips, is developed third party. Smash.
It’s why also the switch seemed so great the first year. Everyone of their teams that was capable of making a triple a title did so within the first year. But now we wait. No year since 2017 have we had as many bigger titles on switch.
Nintendo has to use the switch money fast and use it to reverse the backwardness they developed from the Wii generation. I want to see 3d big budget fire emblem, pokemon, donkey Kong, Kirby, fzero, metroid and even Mother on a regular basis. Imagine Sony was in a position they couldn’t make gow because they didn’t have any studio to make it. This is litterally metroids history and needs to change. Imagine Sony could only make a 2d ghost of tsushima because one of they lesser studios just couldn’t do a big 3d game. I’m not trying to create console wars. I’m really not trying to do this with the comparison. I mearly love and Nintendo and want to see more games from them.
