I have a theory, I believe that Eternatus is an Ultra Beast, or at least is connected to them. Allow me to explain.

Eternatus arrived on the Pokemon World 20,000 years ago from a meteorite that landed in the Galar region. So we know that it isn’t of Pokemon World origin.

The Galar region is home to Dynamax, and is currently the only region where the phenomenon is known to happen. The reason it happens here is because when Zacian and Zamazenta defeated Eternatus, it caused Eternantus’ energy to leak out across the region, causing the creation of power spots. These power spots are the areas in which Dynamaxing can occur, due to this the gyms were built over them. The Raid locations are also power spots.

So we know that Dynamax is a direct cause of Eternantus. So how does this link to the Ultra Beats? Well we need to look at Totem Pokemon.

Totem Pokemon are scattered around the islands of Alola. These Pokemon are notable for being substantially larger than normal pokemon of the same species, with them weighing 2-4x as much as normal. They also have a bigger appearance.

According to Wicke, an assistant chief at the Aether Foundation, these Pokemon became larger as a direct cause of them being bathed in the energy of the Ultra Wormholes. This same energy is what allows the Ultra Beats to have the ability Beast Boost

>*What’s special about the UBs?: “The UBs surround themselves with an aura called the Beast Boost. The truth of this aura is that it is the energy that flows within the Ultra Wormhole. When the UBs pass through the Ultra Wormhole, they are bathed in a great deal of this energy and likely store it within their bodies. There are also Pokémon on our planet that possess this same kind of energy. I think you know what I mean. The so-called Totem Pokémon that you faced in your trials. This is because the energy pours down upon our planet when the holes open.”*

Now it isn’t fully known how these worm holes are made, but it is known that both Necrozma and Cosmog can create them. Neither of these are classed as Ultra Beasts. So we have 2 Pokemon, that are not ultra beasts, that still have links to the Worm Holes and being able to summon them. So how does Eternatus link to this?

Well as mentioned earlier, Eternatus’ energy is responsible for Dynamaxing, something that allows Pokemon to become much larger than usual. The same phenomenon is done in Alola by the Ultra Wormhole energy. We already have 2 Pokemon in Necrozma and Cosmog that aren’t classed Ultra Beats but have links to them, and both come from alien places. One final thing to mention is that in Eternatus’ Gigantamax form, it is said to be able to warp space-time. So it could in theory make a wormhole.

It seems plausible that Eternatus is somehow linked to this, and that Totem and Dynamax are part of the same phenomenon
