What do you think of Bravely Default 2, one year later?

This game, which is actually the third in the series, was released a little over a year ago at the time of writing. It was announced at the [2019 Game Awards](https://youtu.be/DsjTKIt3z8A) and saw multiple demos and surveys leading up to its release. But nowadays, I don’t hear much talk about it or the Bravely series anymore, which is surprising given how successful these games were and the fact that the series is turning 10 years old this year.

For those not in the know, Bravely Default is a series from Square Enix that is designed as an intentional throwback to the JRPGs of yore. The most obvious comparison is Final Fantasy 5, as it shares that game’s robust job system and basic premise of reclaiming four crystals of the elements. Add to that a god tier soundtrack and plenty of quality of life enhancements, and you got yourself a banger of a series. So when the first Bravely Default came out, it actually surprised Square with how well it did, as it told them that there is still very much a market for traditional RPGs following the lukewarm reception to the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy.

The game went on to spawn two sequels, and the producers worked on a similar throwback RPG in Octopath Traveler. And after Octopath’s success, Square Enix announced that they were creating a division that was solely focused on producing Switch games. This game was most likely the result of said division. There’s apparently also a mobile game called Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights, but I don’t know anything about it and it’s Japan exclusive. So what did you think about this game? And please be wary of sharing plot spoilers!
