Awesome Person suggested this theme a while ago, and I’ve had it in my list since then. While I dabbled in this a bit in my moon-themed clear, I did want to do a theme revolving around all the Pokemon that can only be caught in a certain time of the day in the main series games. These are basically the Pokemon you’ll find in the “Nocturnal Pokemon” (night-only) and “Diurnal Pokemon” (day-only) pages in Bulbapedia. (There are also Matutinal Pokemon or those that are only available in the morning, but it has a large overlap with Diurnal Pokemon so I just combined the two.)
I had the added challenge of not being able to use Pokemon from different lists – that is, a team must be all-diurnal or all-nocturnal. This made team-building a lot more interesting since if you go through each list, most of the supports are nocturnal while most damage-dealers are diurnal.
I managed to make these five teams for this week’s CS though. Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Vs. Lance: EX Gardevoir / Support Pichu / Victreebel – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=18000020371&e1=60&o1=0&g1=&s1=1&id2=10158000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFERQXGh4iIyQoKy0uLw==&s2=3&id3=10037000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFBggJCgwRExQVGhwdHiMkJSYpKis=&s3=5
Thank Arceus Ralts is a diurnal Pokemon or else I don’t know what I would use for the half-sync countdown parameter. I knew I needed Victreebel for the sleep, but the third slot went through a few revisions before settling on Support Pichu, who’s the only diurnal Pokemon I found that could complete Gardevoir’s Sp Atk buffs.
Vs. Agatha: Gengar / EX Rotom / Support Starmie – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10106100000&e1=1&o1=738&g1=AAECAwQFBggKCw4QExQaGx0sLg==&s1=5&id2=10251000000&e2=3&o2=714&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICQoMERITFRobHB0jJCUm&s2=1&id3=18000020571&e3=60&o3=0&g3=&s3=1
This is the easiest clear here, although it still needed a bit of resetting for Rotom’s MPR and for Support Starmie to tank enough hits to keep the countdown going. I use the newest Gengar here as I haven’t used him much, and the sync acceleration gives him enough turns to use his max move.
Vs. Bruno: Crobat / Ariados / Mismagius – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10060000000&e1=60&o1=30&g1=AAECAwQF&s1=5&id2=10054000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBgcKDQ8QERMaGyMkJyorLQ==&s2=3&id3=10148000001&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFExQVFhgZGiUoKywt&s3=3
I sped up the footage since this is a 7-minute clear haha. Annoyingly, the only reliable toxic inducer available is Arbok, which is diurnal and can’t be run with Ariados. (It can’t be run with Nidoqueen either even if both are diurnal as they are both eggmons.) So I settled for using Crobat and resetting until I got the toxic poison procs I needed. I originally had Psyduck as the tank here, but Bruno’s debuffs were too much for him, so I switched to Mismagius with her Unbending and Stalwart.
Vs. Lorelei: EX Gallade / Lycanroc-Midday / Staraptor – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10001000000&e1=1&o1=738&g1=AAECAwQFBgcKERITGiMkJicoKy0=&s1=5&id2=10128000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBgkXGhwdHyAiJC4v&s2=5&id3=10159000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFBgcKDQ8VFhkcHyA=&s3=3
Thank Arceus Ralts is a diurnal Pokemon part 2. The only Electric-type available is Pikachu, and there aren’t any supports in the diurnal side that could help him, so I went the off-type route with the trusty Gallade. Midday Lycanroc provides flinches and Defense debuffs, while Staraptor does have Speed debuffs in his grid to help Gallade’s Cakewalk.
Vs. Blue: Lycanroc-Midnight / Tech Rattata / Honchkrow – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=18000030101&e1=60&o1=0&g1=&s1=1&id2=10051000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICQsOERIVFyUmKS4v&s2=5&id3=10068010000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBggLERITFRYaHB4hIyYpKyw=&s3=3
This was another one of those cases where I knew I was gonna use Midnight Lycanroc and Honchkrow, but it took me a while to find the suitable third member for the team. I originally had Masquerain to soften the damage from the enemy team, but it didn’t really have a big effect. I also tried the likes of Clefairy and Umbreon, but I ended up going for the top percentage Rattata with its Screeches. Coupled with the stronger debuffs parameter, those Defense debuffs are what Lycanroc needs to get those KOs.
(I should’ve gone for Screech on Staraptor before Lycanroc’s second sync so that the Stone Edge afterwards would’ve KOed it, but at least Honchkrow was there to finish the job.)
