Metroid fans have been eating well recently, especially with the new boss rush mode releasing today – but Star Fox fans haven’t been getting that much good quality quality love for a while, aside from the occasional drips and drabs.
The good thing is that an indie game releasing today, Astrodogs, is pretty much that. It’s very cartoonish and plays pretty well. There are some issues, but I have been chatting a lot with the dev team over the last month and they’re implementing some improvements that should be releasing any day now. It was supposed to release at launch, but the patch process is being dragged out by Nintendo.
Whilst the game didn’t click straight away, due to a really terrible tutorial that explains very little, I started loving the game once IK got to grips with it. There are also unlockable ships (including an Arwing and X-Wing), paint jobs, lore, and even bonus levels!
If you’re a fan of the genre, it’s worth checking out – especially as it’s pretty cheap too.
