TLDR: **Off The Road Unleashed** reminds me of a mix between Excite Truck and Breath of the Wild. You freely explore a sandbox with a ton of collectibles by land, sea and air. You’re free to do or ignore activities like races and hauling materials as you see fit. **It has a demo** that’s like 20% of the game (progress transfers over) and the full game is **currently 70% off** (so it’s less than $5/€5 now).

# The good
* **Doing whatever you want**: either freely explore or do all the missions, do everything by car or by helicopter. Only do races, or just haul materials from one place to another.
* **Exploration by sight** – like BotW, I recommend just ignoring the map altogether and focus on what you can see ahead of you. You stumble on old buses you can repair and drive, jump challenges and giant cliffs to climb.
* **The physics are fun!** The cars, helicopters and boats are heavy, but easy to control. Drifting through dunes and jumping off mountains is a good time. Crashing is fun as well.
* **Good performance!** It actually looks pretty nice on the Switch screen, the framerate holds up and the draw distance is decent. Load times are nearly non-existent. The game’s quite pretty at night. It looks better than the youtube videos suggest, IMO.
* **Tons of collectibles,** **unlockables, customizations**: all that good stuff that makes you want to keep playing. Dozens of hours of content, for sure.
* There’s some light **survival elements** (you can run out of gas, drown and crash) but they don’t get in the way of the arcade-y fun.
* It’s a $5/€5 3D exploration game. And it has a generous demo.

# The bad
* The UI is… pretty ugly. I think it’s copied over from mobile. Thankfully you don’t spend much time in menu’s
* The music is kinda repetitive and bland. Definitely a game where I put on a spotify playlist
* The camera can be so-so. I think the default is Camera 1, which is ridiculously close for boats and helicopters. Click the R stick (R3) to change it to Camera 2.

All told, very minor downsides, which is why I highly recommend it, For those who have played **Mudrunner/Snowrunner** (I haven’t yet), I’ve seen it described as “Arcade-y Mudrunner” a bunch.
Note: The demo is pretty easy/laid-back but the game gets significantly more challenging with its other maps.
