4:33 – Vs. Azelf: Marley / Silver / Ramos
8:46 – Vs. Blue: Marley / SS Morty / BP Erika
(Since there aren’t any replayable boss battles this week, I recorded this video last week to fill in the gaps.)
Roxanne might be the better support that got a grid in last month’s Pokemon Masters Day, but IMO Marley’s grid is a lot more interesting. I didn’t know how they could salvage her since there’s not a lot of depth to her base kit, but her grid turns her from a one-trick pony to a pretty versatile support.
I wanted to explore her niches here. Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Vs. Bruno: Marley / EX Brendan / Kukui – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=001900025400&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBgkKCwwNEBEUFxgZHyE&v1=009700005900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=3&p1=0&a1=0&t1=4111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcJERMWGiYoKissLQ&v2=000100074500&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=41111&g2=AAECAwQFBhESExQjJCYnKCkrLQ
I think one of Marley’s best new niches is how she can maximize the party’s Speed in two turns. Not only is that great for gauge management, it’s also very helpful for Inertia users, especially those that ramp their Speed up slowly like Brendan. The team gets help from Kukui here with his Defense debuffs and flinches.
Vs. Lorelei: Marley / EX Wally / EX Spring Burgh – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=012800047500&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBgkcHyAhJCcpLC4&v1=009700005900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=3&p1=0&a1=0&t1=4111&g1=AAECAwQFBhETFhobHSAhIyYoKi0&v2=017001017500&s2=2&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44141&g2=AAECAwQFExobHB4gISMmKSor
This might look like it’s repeating the previous clear, and on one level it is, but I also wanted to highlight how Marley has Hype Up 3 and Flag Bearer 3 to give offensive boosts. +6 Speed and some Sp Atk buffs are exactly what Wally need to get his Focus Blast spam going. Spring Burgh’s here to tank, and he’s also helped by Marley’s Team Sharp Entry 1 so he doesn’t have to use another Dire Hit All+. He also gets to sync here for the support boost.
Vs. Azelf: Marley / Silver / Ramos – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=013300025000&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44444&g0=&v1=009700005900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=3&p1=0&a1=0&t1=4111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcJDA8TFBcaHB4gIyYoKg&v2=003700007100&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=0&t2=41111&g2=AAECAwQFBggKDRAcIyUpKiwt
As a Fire unit, Marley also has some sun tiles to work with, and Silver’s infinite sun gives her consistent healing. Of course, this run is carried by Ramos and his sleep chaining shenanigans, but Marley’s Speed buffs not only empowers Silver’s multipliers but also keeps the gauge consistent.
Vs. Blue: Marley / SS Morty / BP Erika – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=014802025001&s0=1&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44411&g0=AAECAwQFBgcICQoMERITFBobHB0eICUmJyg&v1=009700005900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=3&p1=0&a1=0&t1=4111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcJDA8TFBcaHB4gIyYoKg&v2=000800011400&s2=5&l2=140&r2=4&p2=0&a2=0&t2=41111&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDRATFRgdIyUnKCst
Wanted to revisit the burn stall clear from the SS Morty showcase (https://youtu.be/MqMFazxSpsc), but with a sun-based trapper in BP Erika. Marley has Team Hit and Heal on her trainer move for even more healing, and I use it late here so that the regen turns aren’t wasted when the team is still in full health. That was the breakthrough in keeping the team alive long enough, as there were several attempts where I was one or two burn+trap procs away from completing the stage. Timing SS Morty’s potions was key too so that he isn’t bogged down by Seed Bomb. The physical damage up parameter really made this harder than it should have.
