Cobalion Legendary Arena, but I can't use paralysis [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Silver / BP Erika / Hop
3:54 – Allister / EX Elio / Marley
8:45 – EX Anniversary Lillie / Palentines Dawn / Lana

Even if it was meant to promote Serena and her sleep shenanigans, the best counterplay to Cobalion is paralysis. It starts with a very low Lessen Paralysis passive, and unlike sleep, Cobalion only heals up from paralysis every half-HP bar and when it syncs.

So of course, I wanted to make a video where I can’t use paralysis for the whole stage. This involved bringing several status inducers for each team and taking advantage of the fact that if you deplete Cobalion’s entire HP bar with a status condition still active, it doesn’t count as healing from it and Cobalion will still have the Lessen Burn/Sleep/Poison passive from beforehand.

Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Team 1: Silver / BP Erika / Hop – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=000800011400&s0=3&l0=140&r0=4&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44411&g0=AAECAwQFBggLDQ8QExQVFxgbHB0eIyUn&v1=013300025000&s1=5&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=0&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFERQVGBsfICEjKCot&v2=024400088901&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44444&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDRAaHB8iJCYpKw

Starting with an F2P team, and it’s ironically the easiest clear here. That owes to SIlver compressing both the burn inducing and the SE damage, as well as to Hop’s titanic physical bulk. BP Erika completes the team with her toxic poison and trap damage as she also takes advantage of Silver’s constant sun with Healing Sun 1.

Team 2: Allister / EX Elio / Marley – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=012200073000&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44444&g0=AAECAwQFBggKDQ4TFBobHh8gIyQm&v1=025100009400&s1=2&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=41111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcKCwwNExQVFhcj&v2=009700005900&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=0&t2=4111&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICQsOEBETGiYoKis

Incredibly frustrating clear that I almost gave up on. Elio’s Sing was first up since Cobalion’s initial moves after Aerial Ace hit pretty hard, and that already has a bit of RNG as I found it inconsistent when the sleep subsided. I then had to rely on Marley’s 50% burn procs with Hostile Environment 4, which in long battles like this could might as well be a 10% proc rate. Finally, Allister’s max move ignores Healthy Advantage and can bar skip half of Cobalion’s last HP bar, but it has to crit to do so.

All that said, finally getting this clear was very satisfying. That burn proccing on the second half of the first HP bar was a blessing in disguise since it let me save the sleep procs for later in the fight. Getting those Sp Def debuffs from Allister’s Shadow Ball and Elio’s Sparkling Aria Mind Games 4 were also very important in maximizing damage.

Team 3: EX Anniversary Lillie / Palentines Dawn / Lana – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=011601086900&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=41111&g0=AAECAwQFBhMWFxwfIyQnKis&v1=011802079200&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=0&t1=44111&g1=AAECAwQFDA0QERQoKissLi8&v2=016000075200&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44114&g2=AAECAwQFBgcKCw0PGhscHyImKCkr

You don’t have to apply paralysis if you can ignore Healthy Advantage altogether, and Anni Lillie’s Moongeist Beam lets you do just that. In the first Gauntlet I used all of my Piercing Blows units on Cobalion, as even if Azelf was the more difficult clear, Cobalion was harder to find teammates for. PalDawn softened Cobalion’s attacks and made Anni Lillie’s Moongeist Beams hit harder, while Lana tanked, provided Defense debuffs, and activated the master passive.

(I mistakenly used Wide Guard on Lana for the last HP bar as I thought Cobalion opened with an AOE move just like in the second one, but then it didn’t haha.)
