0:00 – Whitney / Sophocles / Marley
4:45 – Siebold / Will / Cheryl
9:08 – Wikstrom / Kahili / Roxanne
What do you think they’re gonna do once they run out of gridless pairs to give grids to in Pokemon Masters Day? Will they double down on the EX promotions? Will they add extra grid tiles to older units? Will they… give grids to eggmons?!
(I’d like Weathered Warrior 9 Strike Cubone please and thank you DeNA)
Anyway, I decided to use nine of the 18 units that have received new grids in Pokemon Masters Day to clear Hall 30 Darach. While individually there are several great sync pairs in the pool, it was a bit harder to find team synergies among them. You’ll easily notice the lack of crit buffers, healers, and strikers with high-powered moves once you go through the available units.
Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Team 1: Whitney / Sophocles / Marley – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=003600077700&s0=5&l0=140&r0=4&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=44141&g0=AAECAwQFBggKCw4RFRYYGhweIyQl&v1=002600024100&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=21010101&t1=41111&g1=AAECAwQFBhgdICMlKSwtLw&v2=009700005900&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=4111&g2=AAECAwQFBgcICREaGx0eISQmKCot
I already did a showcase video on her (https://youtu.be/IiUcpmJMIqQ), but I still find it hilarious that Whitney turned out to be a great sync nuker. I was debating on which Tech unit to pair with her, but I went with Sophocles to activate her innate Static Shock while fishing for flinches as well. Marley definitely needed those flinches as while she’s a good-enough tank, she has a hard time tanking repeated hits in this stage, even with Group Fire Guard in play. This clear took a while to get since Marley was being KOed too soon, but I eventually realized that focusing on the center mons was the optimal play to prevent sync moves.
Team 2: Siebold / Will / Cheryl – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=004700017800&s0=5&l0=140&r0=4&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=4111&g0=AAECAwQFBgcIFRgZGhsjJCUnKSot&v1=009600069300&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44111&g1=AAECAwQFBgcKDQ4RFBcYGx8hJA&v2=002300024200&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44111&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4TFhcZGiYpKw
I’ve used Siebold several times this past week, and I gotta say that he’s a better unit than I thought. He’s self-sufficient, has good sustain, and can do decent damage thanks to his sync. While Will would’ve been a better Whitney partner for Interference Sync, he somewhat mimics that utility here by activating Siebold’s Confusion Synergy 3, while also getting key flinches along the way. Cheryl tanks for the team as she’s of course a fantastic special tank, and her trainer move lets her tank physical moves as well.
Team 3: Wikstrom / Kahili / Roxanne – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=005800073300&s0=5&l0=140&r0=4&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=41111&g0=AAECAwQFBgkMDQ4PERIUFxou&v1=005500068100&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=41414&g1=AAECAwQFBhIUFhgaGx0eICEv&v2=004400047600&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44111&g2=AAECAwQFERMUFxkaGxwdICMkJg
I think Wikstrom has a good case for being the best damage-dealer among the PoMa Day units, or at the very least top 3. He has a great sync nuke especially on-type, and unlike most of his fellow PoMa Day sync nukers he has a good spam move in Iron Head. While it’s weaker than Bruno’s Cross Chop or Will’s fully-buffed Stored Power, it makes up for it with that ever-reliable 60% flinch chance. Wikstrom is also offensively self-sufficient thanks to Sharp Entry 1 on his grid. Because of that, I had no problems pairing him with Roxanne, as he appreciates all of her buffs barring Sp Atk. Kahili rounds out the team with a good spam move in Peck, which is gridded with Defense Crush 4 here to help with damage. But I also got Haymaker from her grid in case she needed to sync, and it turns out she did.
