Wanted to put together this bonus video in light of recent events. Billy Kametz did a fantastic job voicing our favorite rival turned champion turned gym leader turned battle legend. He really captured the combination of confidence, cockiness, and maturity that Blue’s character has evolved into. RIP.
Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Vs. Lyra: EX Blue / Misty / EX Sabrina – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=011000012100&s0=3&l0=140&r0=3&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=4411&g0=AAECAwQFERITFRYYGhweICUn&v1=002100001800&s1=5&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFBhQVHyIkKCkqKy0uLw&v2=011400006500&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=4441&g2=AAECAwQFBhETGhscHSAhIyUnKCks
I’ve used base Blue as a flincher more often recently, so it’s easy to forget that he’s first and foremost a great damage-dealer. He’s on-type for Lyra’s stage and also has the correct side of the damage spectrum, so of course he was gonna do great here. Recently Blue became the guaranteed first-time scout reward in place of Whitney, so I’m glad that every player now has the opportunity to use Blue.
Vs. Kris: EX SS Blue / EX SS Red / Blaine – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=0&v1=002101000900&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=21010101&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFBhITFiYnKSoyMzQ1&v2=000001000600&s2=4&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=13010602&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFBhEUFxgZKCssLS4v
SS Blue has a lot more competition now among top-tier supports compared to when he was released, but it speaks volumes that he’s still top-of-mind whenever we need a good support for a team. He does well against Kris’s stage thanks to his Defense buffs and sustain, which thankfully activated a generous amount here. I’m glad that they made SS Blue a lot more accessible to newbies with Victory Road and the 72-hour Kantrio scout – I definitely think he’s the best choice of the three if you have none of them.
Vs. Ethan: EX Classic Blue / EX Ingo / BP Morty – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=010800053000&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=21010101&t0=4411&g0=AAECAwQFBhEUFRgaHB8hIiMm&v1=002102014200&s1=3&l1=140&r1=5&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFBgkREhMWGRslJiks&v2=014800042900&s2=3&l2=140&r2=4&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhMaHB4hJCYnKCot
It’s easy to forget that Classic Blue does have sand tiles, so he takes advantage of those in Ethan’s stage, which becomes a lot easier if you change the weather. His sync might not be as powerful as other Rock-types, but he makes for it with his regular moves. I focus on Double-Edge here since he reaches +6 Attack sooner. This was definitely the hardest clear, but I had extra insurance with Classic Blue thanks to Endurance.
Vs. Lyra: Event Blue / SS Leaf / EX SS Morty – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=001710000300&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=21010101&t0=4411&g0=AAECAwQFBggLDhQVFhcjJCcqLA&v1=002100005900&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=13010602&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFBgcIERIUFhcYHB4fICMoKw&v2=014802025001&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=21010101&t2=44411&g2=AAECAwQFCxMUFxocHyImKCks
Event Blue is a bit of an anomaly among Hyper Beam users as he unfortunately has a low Sp Atk to make up for its high base power, but he makes up for it by being great to use under sun. Lyra’s is the more forgiving stage among the three so I use him here, taking advantage of Hyper Beam and his sync. Event Blue also has Terrify 1 to slightly soften up attacks, which is helpful against the Petal Blizzard spam in the latter part of the stage.
