I bought a family subscription to Nintendo Online week of Halloween through Paypal and just now noticed that my bank me charged a foreign transaction fee. I thought it was strange since I was using a US card and was purchasing in the States, but it looks like Nintendo’s Paypal account is linked to a Japanese account ([paypal\_noa@nintendo.co.jp](mailto:paypal_noa@nintendo.co.jp)) so it counts as a foreign transaction…
Is this usual for Nintendo purchases through Paypal?
I looked around online and only found two other people complaining about this ([someone on twitter](https://twitter.com/kwizten/status/1060256379519160320) and [another on GameSpot’s GameFAQs forums](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/189706-nintendo-switch/77142678)). Both posts are fairly recent, and most replies say they never get charged a foreign transaction fee.
I called a customer rep to ask about this and he seemed just as confused as I was, but he said he’ll escalate my issue and get back to me…
01/20/2019 EDIT: No word back from Nintendo, and it looks like issue hasn’t been resolved… Unfortunately, I haven’t had the patience to sit through the hour wait to get hold of a customer rep on the phone. I’d suggest continuing to leave feedback on their [support pages](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27248/~/how-to-link-paypal-to-a-nintendo-account).
