I picked it up because I live in Taiwan, but didn’t know anything about the gameplay beforehand.
I guess it’s a Beat-em-Up with platforming elements, where you steal weapons from enemies. You play as a Taiwanese Robin Hood type character stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, during the Japanese occupation.
The thing which really impresses me is the presentation – it feels straight out of an old Taiwanese comic book. The transitions between cutscenes, comic book segments, and gameplay are smooth like butter. There’s voice acting (in I think Taiwanese Hokkien / 臺語) and some Japanese. The gameplay itself is pretty fun. I’m generally not a fan of Streets of Rage type beat-em-ups, but this is less combo-y. Reminds me *a little* of Hollow Knight. It has two modes, basically easy and normal. Normal is pretty challenging for me, especially during boss fights, mostly because I’m not great at this genre. If you’re into these kinds of sidescrollers, or Taiwanese history at all, I’d definitely recommend it so far.
Here’s a trailer that does a good job of presenting the vibe https://youtu.be/AkyP9nIXhCw
